Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

5 months ago (through August) I used to think the need was common sense, guidelines and health practices during a global pandemic affecting our country.

After all this time, I wonder if things are determined by a political (D) agenda.  Just saying, where there's smoke, there's fire.

There is no way basketball is a go, lacrosse is happening, and football is cancelled (or on hold).  Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania...that's huge political territory and a football landscape.  Don't tell me it's not coincidence anymore.  I'm really starting to think that if election was 2022, the big ten would have football today... like SEC, ACC, Big 12.  (I'm sorry, but Pac 12 is totally (D) and we see they aren't playing either).
Sorry....just...no.

There is no way in hell these University Presidents are voting to severely harm, not only their football programs but their communities and local business's, just because they don't like Trump.

The idiotic conspiracy theories just need to stop.

i think the B1G is letting the SEC and Big12 be the crash test dummies.    let them go first and play a few weeks...if no problems arise then let our kids play.  if problems get bad keep our guys safe.
This cant be the Big Ten’s plan as they dont have one.  If it had been a delayed start subject to safety concerns - then say so.  It is a plan, albeit a lame one.

The only plausible explanations for Big Ten actions this far are either

1.   They voted to cancel fall and completely failed to plan for what then, perhaps expecting a big fall surge in virus cases etc.

or

2.   The plan was a deliberate attempt to delay fall sports in election swing states for purely partisan reasons.

The former was more credible in the first week or so but without any follow up or press briefings or Q&A sessions to better explain and offer reasoning, it has become much less plausible.  And since Big Ten has gone silent and AWOL in response to the legal issues and very troubling suspicions and rumors running rampant across the country,  it appears it may have some internal conflicts, errors, omissions, even internal disputes as to process and policy.

With public statements of Board members only raising more questions than answers, a “plan” just does not seem to have existed at all.  And a major split, perhaps three or more factions, has enveloped the Board.  It seems like no plan can get a 9 vote majority.

Monday will reveal more as either Big Ten opens their books and explains their actions, or litigation and courts will decide for all.  That will not be positive as courts dont decide emergency cases with long term solutions.  No temp fix available here really.

#2 is the silliest thing i have ever heard of.   if you give that thought any credence at all i laugh in your general direction.

Your first point is the reason. The Big Ten bet the house on a surge in cases causing all conferences to cancel. They were following the Ivy League. Unfortunately, they bet incorrectly and were foolish in the follow up, specifically Kevin Warren and his “decision will not be revisited” commentary. He thought he could strong arm the decision made by the presidents & chancellors like he was Jim Delaney. Sadly, he is learning the hard way that he has a lot of room for improvement.

I think it would depend on what state it is in.

Obviously, Nebraska's donors are mostly republican.  Illinois and Michigan I'm thinking are mostly democrats.
mostly being the key word. there are donors that wouldn't go along with that plan in every system.    but i am going to stop talking about that.   this is suppose to be about whether we have a season or not.

i do think we will.....it will probably be 8 games or so planned...then i suspect half of those will get canceled when the virus takes off again later this fall.  just my guess....i didn't even stay at a holiday inn but that is my guess so take it for what it's worth.

It helps D stay in office by removing one step of oversight from the voting.  Russia et al couldn't have dreamed of a better way to interfere in our elections.  No surprise coming from those who want to pack the Supreme Court, censor the internet, and spy on the opposition party.

Can we just ban this guy? This is straight up misinformation, and he's been doing it for years.

This isn't even an attempt at good-faith conversation. This is verifiable lying.

How exactly does cancelling help either candidate since neither candidate has anything to do with whether the B1G plays sports?

What and lose our laugh of the day.  :laughpound

ND is a good reveal of what brainwashing, cultish membership looks like.

But I agree.  I think he is actually a Russian bot that spews out Trump talking points - no need to check the facts - his leader never does.

Make up the facts as you go and enough mindless trump zombies will eat up like they did at Trump's Nevada rallies this weekend.

As I am posting this I am unaware of any vote by the Big 10 regarding whether to play or not this fall. The way I see it is if the liberals powers in control of the Big 10 allow football at all this fall it will be only at a date that will put the league in serious jeopardy of participating in the national platform of a playoff for a national championship. They may allow football in late fall to attempt to take the heat off of themselves for their decision to cancel but will not likely allow the league to play enough games to be viable candidates for the playoff and potential national championship. I predict they vote for at best an early November start or perhaps October 31st which would likely impair the Big 10 teams that may opt to play chances of being included in the hunt for the national championship. All of this in order to achieve their agenda of attempting to influence the moods of voters of key states regarding the presidential election.

That was specifically about the content of their posts.

At some point there has to be a decision made on the intent of a poster.  I would not be allowed to post in Husker Football misinformation after misinformation.

And yet, NDJ's post containing verifiable lies is still there.

You're going to get the message board you choose, folks. Choose well.
