Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

Is that real or just rumors?  Many have been talking about a 9-5 vote that was really 11-3.  A lot of opinions have been formed with bogus rumors/statements.  My guess is the B1G never intended to play.  Our league has states that were hard hit by Covid-19.

But as you already stated, we shall see.  In the meantime, Georgia's prejected starting QB just announced he's not playing. Clemson's best receiver already announced he's not playing.
All true, check it out for yourself. It’s been covered extensively here on the forum.
the big cancelled the season before any kids were on campus, that’s a fact. They  announced this less than a week after coming out with the new fall schedule, that is a fact. They used a faulty study that has been completely discredited to sell the league on the idea that there were lung issues caused by covid that young people were at risk from-that is a fact. They had no detailed fall plans and protocols in place , that’s why coaches like Brohm were cooking up with their own plans- that’s a fact

there’s lots more, the big totally flubbed this. I’ve never said 9-5, I’m very confident there were 3 -could be more yes votes.

At the end of the day the big10 footprint isn’t what the big 12, sec and acc are- pretty homogenous red states. The big is a total mix  with no dominant overwhelming majorities like the sec, big 12 and acc have- minus of course Nebraska.
You have Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Miss, Alabama, Tennessee , Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, West Virginia, all very red. Florida, North Carolina, Missouri Iowa  Red too. but smaller margins. Virginia split , Maryland and ny blue. In the big only Nebraska with the wide red margins, everyone else split or blue. It is what it is.

I assume you must mean teams that chose the color red for their team, right?

Since we were told no politics on the football side, you couldn't possibly be promoting a political agenda on this thread implying that the SEC/Big XII/ACC are superior to the Big Ten and Pac 12 since the first group resides in red states, correct?

Not at all

Just saying the evidence Is overwhelming that red states are playing, blues and on the border, not so much.  Almost perfect correlation.

Why do certain states of one overwhelming persuasion always decide they want to play while those of the opposite overwhelming persuasion always decide not to and when there are a bunch kinda in the middle like the big 10 they aren’t really sure what they want to do. Interesting stuff.

How many pandemics and lost seasons have i missed in my lifetime? Then again if you cancel once and there is only one time, always is technically correct.

Always meaning that  all of the heavy red states voted to play

All of the heavy blue states voted not to play

Those on the fence all over the place. Probably could have stated it better. Interesting stuff.

Great answer

science is overwhelming that people under the age of 24 are more at risk from riding in a car than dying of covid. Why would the red states have that data and the blues would not? Weird deal
If only COVID stayed with just those kids.

I don't understand why people don't understand. The virus isn't just about you, it's about those around you. The coaching staff, their wives, their parents, other students...

So how does that work exactly? Does this only effect football athletes and skips over the rest of the students who are in the dorms, classess , bars etc?

are the students being tested and monitored as closely as the football kids? If not then how are they less apt to transmit to others?

the footballers have a huge incentive to stay well and follow the rules, students not so much

if the students are in class and the footballers are practicing, I just don’t get why they are being stopped from playing games.

for the 1 or 2 times the footballers go home, how hard is it to stay away from grandma and grandpa for 2 weeks in exchange for getting to play football?

You realize that the football players are also students and will be around the rest of the students, right? So football is an added risk to the already existing risks of going to college right now.

The increased testing of the football players only detects the virus after it has spread. If those testing positive are quarantined, then the players spreading the virus will be minimized, but that will have no effect on the rest of the students spreading the virus including to the players on the team. Having said that, the data so far shows that young people getting the virus are having very little issues, so I think the risk to the players themselves is very low. The coaches and staff are at higher risk though.

I think the major risk is in letting the team travel which increases the risk of spreading the virus between cities/regions. However, with the recent testing that has results in 15 minutes and can be done in mass, I think the risk of the teams spreading the virus becomes much, much less, and I'd be ok with them playing. (Assuming that the new test has good accuracy, which I haven't seen numbers for yet.)

let’s hear from Fauci.

let’s hear him say that stuff only to a world wide audience.

the Big 14 blew it like he did. The cure for our country and for our conference is worse than the virus.

admit it and let’s get going in life and in school/athletics.
