Staff Changes

They exist. Guys at P5 schools who didn't get over .500 their first 4 years, and were kept 6+ years.

Dan McCarney- Iowa state

Bobby Johnson- vanderbilt

Greg Schiano- Rutgers

Bill Curry- Georgia tech

Derek Mason- Vanderbilt

Mike Stoops- Arizona

People can feel free to add to this list.
I'm not that well versed on all coaches, so here's where they coached at.

Not a great lousy of schools to be compared to. Mike Stoops got 8 years to figure it out and had two 8 soon seasons. Derek Mason got 7. Curry got 7 with a single 9 win season. Johnson had 8 seasons to try. Nobody turned it around, obviously.

This list might make me feel worse...

I'm not disagreeing. Like I said, if Frost had proven he could win 8+ games at Nebraska, like the coaches fired at Texas, Tennessee, USC - we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Frost wouldn't be on the hot seat with a resume like Jones, Herman, Helton.
Completely agree Hardy.  While there is always criticism that comes with a Power 5 job, I have no doubt this coaching staff would be secure had they simply gotten us to consecutive bowls the last 2 years (with a Year 1 transition).  Whether we want to admit it or not, this is not a profession that rewards folks for coming close to wins, but only for actual wins.

At 3-5, we are not close...

Hugh Freeze won 8 games his 1st year at Liberty and 7 his first year at Ole Miss, Mark Stoops won 7 his 4th year at Kentucky.
Frost could still win 7.....

I disagree on this but it's cool.  I just think that coaching OLBs is inherently a little more difficult in what Nebraska wants to do as the players are asked to do more.  This is by no means a shot at Ruud, just a discussion on if you absolutely made me choose someone between Ruud and Dawson to go in order to hire a S/T coach, I'd go with Ruud.  And I say that knowing how full well unpopular that would be amongst Husker fans.
No worries.  I understand completely.  I guess I look at JoJo as our only threat at OLB.  Nelson is getting there, but seems to have lost playing time.  Maybe I have missed him.   ILB seems to be thriving. Can be in part to our scheme as you mentioned where we seem to "funnel" to the ILB's.

We need a ST coach for sure.  If that means Chin picks up LB or Ruud/Dawson pick them up to free up a ST coach I am good either way.  LB's haven't cost us a game...ST's......too many times to count.

Jojo and Nelson had almost the exact same stats in the Minnesota game.

Both with 8 tackles, 4 solo, 4 assisted, 1 tackle for loss.
