I might be in the minority here, but are there any good quality candidates that are African American?  I think it is time that happens in Lincoln.  Thoughts?
Why do we need to go after a coach based on skin color?

I don’t care what race the next coach is, I just want a proven winner that can develop talent and has a proven resume, I just don’t think skin color should be the prime focus.

Hello Everyone,

You may recall my posting during the coaching search that resulted in the hiring of Scott Frost and all of the inside information that you were priviledge to get along the way. First, this coaching search is going to be different. Secondly, the administration already was leaning towards firing Scott Frost when they were alerted of the NCAA invistigation. Third, Scott Frost is gone. He already knows that and so does the administration.

Now, to the search will be wild with false rumors, candidates that are not actual candidates, and people claiming names that are going to get hired that are not even interviewed.

It's not Bill O'Brien.

As of this moment, the names that are being researched, backgrounds being done on, have receipriated back interest are: Jeff Monken, Lance Leipold, Dave Dawson, Dave Doeren, Dan Lanning, Jeff Grimes, Dave Aranda, Matt Campbell, Kalen DeBoeor, Dan Lanning, Pat Fitzgerald, and PJ Fleck.

If I had to handicap the three leading candidates, they would be Dave Aranda, Jatt Campbell, and Kalen DeBoeor.

God bless everything. Better days are on the way.

Many names on this list can be taken off quickly.  We do not want to go for anyone who has never been a head coach or who has coached for many years and is barely above .500 overall.  Additionally, a guy like Dave Aranda is essentially what we got with Frost...in his 2nd year where he has shown improvement from the first year.

The only names on this list that we should even consider are Matt Campbell, Kalen Deboer and Dave Doeren.

If you think long, methodical drives were the key under Osborne you are wrong. He was trying to get big plays. Teams who score in fewer plays score more points than teams who take more plays. Even in the 1994 Orange Bowl, NU had 3 TD drives. None of them were methodical, wearing down the defense drives. The tying TD was a 2-play drive. The winning TD drive was maybe a 5 or 6 play drive.

I agree that the offense needs to be able to get first downs and maintain drives, which has been the weakness under Frost. But, trying to win games with consistent drives of 10-12 plays is not a winning formula.
True, true, I'll give you that. However. What were the plays in the tying drive? 1. Pitch option. 2. Belly Trap with a triple option look. Why did it work? Because Frazier and LP had been carrying the water for most of the game, and Osborne hit them with the change-up. Miami's defense was tired after dealing with Wiegert, Stai, Graham, etc all game. It was a cumulative effect.

Of course Osborne wanted big plays, but the reality is that it's always going to be 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Honestly, that was absolutely the B1G for a long time. But you have to establish the run as a threat. Then you hit one over their heads to a TE or WR. It's still very much a viable scheme.

I like that Pat Fitzgeralds name is being floated around but taking him away from his Alma Mater would be tough BUT it would be a lot easier to recruit to Nebraska than to Northwestern there’s no denying that.

If Fitz has a losing season this year that will be 6 in his 15 years as HC. Nebraska will have 6 in the last 7 years….lol that’s sad

I don’t think people realize how bad Northwestern was before Fitz got there. Pretty close to how K-State was before Bill Snyder showed up.

I wanted Campbell when we got Frost.

Gary Barnett won the Big Ten at Northwestern in 1995, and Randy Walker tied for 1st for the Big Ten in 2000.  Northwestern wasn't awesome, but Fitz inherited a much better program then you are thinking.

Someone should tell Georgia and Oklahoma to fire their coaches since they hired them before they had any head coaching experience therefore they suck.

I agree.  I like that he coaches them to be scrappy and physical. To coin a phrase, gritty not pretty.....

Yes and how many head coaches out there with more than 3 years of HC experience have a .745 winning percentage that also learned under Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney.  He is also known to be a great recruiter.

The only way this happens this season is if there is a mutual separation agreement with this coach.

In the event that happens, and assuming a good vet, two coaches that would likely be on the list would be Dave Aranda and Hugh Freeze.

If we had a winning program now with the vacancy due to a retirement, I would be more open to taking on an assistant.  We are at a point where we cannot take another risk on a guy with no head coaching experience. It's a big leap to go from a coordinator or assistant to a head coach and many guys struggle with the transition.
