I think Joe definitely had a cold or was under the weather. But I don’t think that is any kind of excuse for performing as poorly as he did. Debating the narcissistic fantasyland dwelling chronic liar Trump should be one of the easiest chores for any politician. All he had to do was refute every lie and false belief Trump spouted and he couldn’t/didn’t do it.
I’m not particularly a fan of JB but I was severely disappointed. Definite signs of severe cognitive decline….that I still find immensely preferable to Trump’s brand of brain disease.

Joe Biden was one of our more visible and active Vice-Presidents. It was more often that Obama had to reign him in. Not even close to the Kamala situation. And honestly, that's a weird situation. Someone will write a book and maybe we'll find out what went on behind the scenes, but it looks like both the White House and DNC did the exact opposite of grooming Harris for the job.

Word is that the Democrat media specialists issued the "Joe has a cold" statement in mid-debate when they saw things going south. Cold appeared to be gone when the debate was over. Hence that clip.
If Vigorous Joe from the next day is the real Joe, I can get behind him. But it's a little like having an NBA superstar go 4 for 17 in the Finals and saying "but man, he was killing it in practice!"
I'm also open to the possibility that Teach is right* -- they loaded Joe up with energizer and focusing meds and got the chemistry wrong. While that would be a better excuse in some ways, I can see why they'd never want to admit it.
* while not common, the volume of posts presents a statistical likelihood.

IDK know about more visible and active but yes, I mischaracterized /misremembered the “reigning him in” as vanquishing him to the kids table. It seems to me the only times we heard from JB VP was when Obama had to do some damage control on some off script thing crazy uncle Joe had said and when they wanted to make it look like he was doing important work behind the scenes.

I’m no doctor and the he was sick story does smell of a panicky reaction to his performance. But there is no denying he sounded exactly like a person with a head/chest cold sounds. Either way, sick or not, I don’t believe it fully explains his lack of energy, focus or ability to successfully dispute the blatant liar opposite him. IDK, maybe when you’re 80ish, the cognitive decline comes and goes uncontrollably. SOTU speech…the debate…the day after the debate, IDK how to explain the wild swings.
I have no experience with Adderall but if it really sharpens focus as purported, they need to be mixing gallons of that stuff with a bit of meth for him…and obviously not make it known.

Behind the scenes, I believe Biden was engaged and considered useful at the high-level foreign policy confabs, and was most definitely used for Congressional lobbying, where he was generally respected as a reach-across-the-aisle guy. Obama had to reign Joe in on some of his gay rights statements, which came out stronger that Obama's, but in hindsight Joe was ahead of that curve, and not crazy at all.
I forgot Machin bolted. He was a potential 3rd party spoiler. I have appreciated some things Polis has done...like declaring an end to the pandemic madness and telling the schools to get back in session (as opposed to Whitmer). Lately though the Dems in CO have been veering more toward CA with their ideas. I Don't like it. They pulled a bait and switch on property taxes, they are trying to take away zoning powers from local govs, and their going after charter schools. They are constantly trying to decieve the people into getting rid of Tabor. It might be time to leave soon.
You are absolutely right about Joe's VP.

@JJ Husker Addy's are HUGE in HS and college...both for real reasons and because they are f#&%ing awesome if you want to party for about 20 hours straight.
My guess...JB took an addy, orally, like you are supposed to, probably with some cold meds. It all took much longer to kick in...
What you want to do with addy, if you want that quick hit (or so I have been told), is you crush it an snort it. Not only are you hyper focused but you are wide f#&%ing awake. See JB the next day. That, that is a dude that crushed and snorted an addy.
As far as he brain declining, of course it is, he is over 80 and has a stressful job. There are 3 options..
1. He is getting sharper
2. He is staying exactly the same
3. He brain is getting worse
Pretty simple guess which one it is. Those of us with older parents know how it goes. It is okay, it is normal. He probably can't bench 500 or run a 4.3 40 yard dash like all of us still can.
