I trust in the coaches evaluations.  Tired of posters complaining about star value.
Its stupid.  I played with some very good football players.  I would say they were probably 4*.  We played at a smaller school and they didn’t go to camps because they were basketball players.  They played at small D1 basketball schools but I think would have been better football players.  I know going against them in practice was harder than the few guys on other teams who went D1 in football.

If better players were attainable we wouldn’t be taking some of these guys. We are because we have to. Not Mooberry in particular but some of this class as a whole. We are going to get mauled recruiting at this level with adding in schools like USC, UW, Oregon, & UCLA. The Big Ten West teams are going to be in for a rude awakening. Especially with smaller roster limits.

Having higher rated players doesn’t guarantee that you will be good or elite but every elite team has high rated players.

Similarly, the four new schools you mentioned may be in for a rude awakening within a few years when they're playing in temperatures below 50-60 degrees in October & November. Weather can often be overrated in terms of impact, but add in the travel, the quality of Big Ten coaches, and overall spread of talent, it will likely be pretty difficult for most teams to sustain elite success (10+ wins) annually. Additionally, there is a significant difference between playing the likes of big bruisers in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Penn State, etc. and the fun and gun style of the Pac-12. I do look forward to the possibility of a Minnesota-Oregon matchup with PJ sitting on the ball for 45 minutes of a game. Though talent and speed may be enough to win, it will be a challenge to do so week after week.

FWIW - I expect a similar regression with Oklahoma & Texas. Since 2010, the program that has fared best in college football after a conference change has arguably been TCU. Most would not consider their success elite, but I can't point to any program that changed conferences as continually being amongst the top 10-20 programs annually. Flashes from A&M, Mizzou, Colorado, etc., but there has always appeared to be a regression after initial bursts into their new conferences from almost every program that comes to mind.

Waiting for the weather relevance. You are correct that new addition teams typically do not fair as well as they did in previous conferences.

The weather is not going to be an issue, fans need to get over that.
Weather conditions, specifically wind, seemed to be a frequent point cited by Rhule this past year. He mentioned more than once that the staff needed to build an offense that can be durable regardless of conditions.

"Trusting the coaches evaluations" is what every fan base of every team that recruits non-elite talent says. I could go on the Western Kentucky message board and find the same thing.

We said it for the last several coaching staffs. The reality is that star value matters. It's why Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama sign 20 blue chip players a year. If stars didn't matter, the best programs would be taking 20 3* players because they "trust in their evaluations". They don't because those players are less talented.

This is all correct

Now, are there HS players that are totally missed on or have a bad ranking either way, of course!  Are their good HS players that just can't handle college and college life and end up being bad, of course!

You can do "okay" with a bunch of 3 star players, you can be like Iowa where every single year the first thing you do is look at your schedule and just PRAY you once again dodged OSU, Michigan and PSU...add in 3 lame teams in the non con and you can get 7 wins.  Great!

But "trust the staff" is how it starts..."We need to hire some great recruiters next time"...is how it ends.
