End of Walk-ons Coming Soon?

This might be a stupid question but couldn't we circumvent these restrictions by restarting our junior varsity program? Probably not since the reason we cut our JV team in 1991 because the NCAA restricted the amount of football coaches.

There are still a lot of questions about how the cap will work.  But I don't think having a JV program would be allowed.  I think the most teams will get is possibly some sort of practice squad that would let you have players to elevate to the 105-man roster in case of a season-ending injury.  But that might just be wishful thinking on the part of the coaches.

I think all of this roster cap talk is pointless since it will almost certainly get slapped down in court just like all the other rules to limit athletes have been. Until there's a collective bargaining agreement, none of his matters.

I don’t really understand the purpose of the roster cap. Is it to make sure every player is on scholarship for equal payment purposes?   And what about red shirts. Do they still exist?  Do they count towards the cap?

To the best of my understanding, schools are wanting to limit the numbers for revenue sharing.  It would seem that redshirts would still be a thing and they would count towards the cap.

It sucks for moderately to pretty good HS players who love their state team, but in the long run this may help us.  It's somewhat of an equalizer, but mainly because I don't see how anything can hurt us (more) at this point.  Seriously, though our NIL and HC (I still have faith in Rhule) will get us over flash in the pan schools like Indiana and those with lesser NIL.  We're going to kick some portal a$$ this offseason.

I don't think there are many "moderately good" high school players who get to be a walk on at Nebraska. But I'm curious how many players we typically turned away from the walk on program.

It would seem to me that the 45 kids we will no longer have on the roster will end up at non power Four schools, Div 2 schools, junior college or even NAIA colleges. If they thrive they can always enter the portal and get back to Nebraska.
