Yep you have a once in a generation talent and we’re just pissing it away.  We should be using NIL big time,, hitting the portal, and bringing in the most talented coaches money can buy,

So much this.  Mentioned on another board that we have a potential NFL QB and as you mentioned a generational talent and Satt is the OC and a 26 year old kid is coaching your receivers.  And your same craptastic OC is also coaching your TE's....Throw in the the returning lead rusher is the QB you beat out.  And in year 2, besides the addition of Dowdell your RB coach hasn't coached anyone enough to separate themself from the pack and any given game you have to work with 3-4 different backs....We have a huge budget and this is some of the staff Rhule put together....

That's the crux of it.   It hasn't worked,  but that's because we've replaced coaches who proved they don't deserve more than three years with other coaches who proved they don't deserve more than three years. 

The issue isn't the coaches we fired,  it's who we replaced them with.

Bullseye, look at what is being paid to all of the coaches, then look at the results.  Nebraska deserves better.

When you look around the country that is right. Texas struggled between Mack brown and sarcesian. Alabama got 2 losses already post Saban. LSU is hot cold. Florida state is a mess. A&M struck out on Fischer. USC appears to have struck out on Riley. So even stealing proven coaches doesn’t always work. Michigan not good post harbaugh. Oklahoma a mess. 
 

Honestly the last 20 years it seems like Ohio state and Oregon seem to always get it right. Go offer Lanning $10 million a year and get good again. Maybe urban will feel sorry for us and coach again. Or Saban will miss college football. Those 3 and Kirby are about only fool proof hires.

Do you think Indiana talent is superior? I would bet anything their recruiting is horrible. They brought in some lower tier transfers. That’s coaching not talent. If we got boat raced by Ohio state ok I’ll hear the talent issue. You think Indiana is 56-7 better because of talent?

I think this is just as good as it gets.  Like this is our ceiling now and has been for the better part of 2 decades.  9 wins, bowl games and maybe an appearance in a title game if we really REALLY have things fall into place.  Even with a 12 team playoff I don't see us getting in anytime soon.  This program just is what it is.  We're never going to attract a coach that can bring/build an elite staff.  We're never going to have enough success or pull to convince enough top tier talent to come build here.  We are what we are, a sometimes above average team that used to be elite.  Any advantages that would make a difference are long gone.

But we're coming off a Bo level blowout so I'm also feeling very morose so I could just be sad.

There have been OC coaches fired during the season already- why wait until the end of the season. At the least HCMR could demote him and take over the OC job himself and state that this stops now 

 
My biggest concerns are two-fold at this point, and I'm uncertain which is worse.

1.  Going 5-7 after starting 5-1.  The team seems to be regressing.  I feel best about beating UCLA, but I would, in no way, call that a given.  

2.  Going 6-6 and being so relieved we made a bowl that we don't make the changes necessary to turn another corner.  I'll acknowledge there's a big difference between 5-7 and 6-6, but next year's schedule is no cake walk.  We open with Cincy, we miss OSU and Oregon but have Michigan and Penn State (away) and finish the last four games on the road after hosting USC.  

This program needs some serious overhaul.
