USC game. What did we learn

There’s no downfield passing game. Apparently DR had lost his confidence in it, and the new OC is keenly aware of it. DR seems not able to see the whole field, and yet that was hyped to be one of his strong talents. It sure doesn’t appear Glen Thomas has helped at all, and we have a bad WR coach. And what happened to Tony White’s defense? But most of all it’s all on Rhule. He maybe a good developer and recruiter but not a good game-day coach.

There would be less criticism of Raiola in my opinion if our staff would just decide to try to make the opening game plan be to establish the run with lead blockers & creative running.

Run the ball early, and if we're in 3rd & long and we whiff it when we're in four guys wide, that's fine.

What in the actual f*** have we been doing out there this season doing an impersonation of the Kansas City Chiefs (on multiple levels)? We aren't them, and our QB sure as f*** isn't Patrick Mahomes. We can't do what they do.

I wonder if our staff got hung up on fears of Raiola transferring if we weren't "Kansas City enough." Rhule said he loves what the 49ers do 11 months ago; I thought we'd be trying to do that. We have just legitimately pi***d it down our legs like only Nebraska can do.

USC’s 247 board was almost unmistakeable from ours during the week. They were downright certain they’d lose this game if it was remotely close. They’ve found ways to choke away games all year long. The broadcast brought it up over and over. One of the teams would have to find a way to win the game, and the fact that it wasn’t us feels a bit telling at this point for me. I’d still say I believe in Rhule but this is one of those games where if his tenure doesn’t work out, I’ll remember this game as a personal turning point.

Teams can bring safeties down because we have no difference makers at wide out and absolutely no one on this team can break a tackle to save their lives with the ball.  The only one who can somewhat make people miss is EJ in the backfield who has a nice lateral shifty move is so slow gaining his speed back that it pretty much negates the initial miss

+1, completely agree.

But who does our staff start? Dowdell.

What in the actual f*** is going on in their heads with some of this stuff?

Extremely well said.

I literally cannot believe I saw a coach take a timeout to avoid a delay of game, trot his offense back on the field and attempt(?) the worst attempt to draw the defense offsides in history, only to TAKE THE PENALY ANYWAY.

They used a timeout to avoid a penalty they moments later voluntarily accepted. That is Nebraska Football in a nutshell. Ineptitude built on a culture of incompetence, filled with players who don't trust each other or their coaches.
What you stated can only be explained by the fact that Rhule is NOT a good coach. He is all talk no substance. Even at the end, we are down and need all the time we can get and he does not use his timeouts. We rushed all passes because clock management was atrocious. Let’s face it. Rhule is way over his head. He just knows how to blow smoke up our “you know what”. He lacks the confidence and the team feels that and act accordingly. Another failed experiment. Expecting Rhule to right the ship is like expecting us to win the national championship next year. We will be the team known for two things: (1) financing the nest eggs of incompetent coaches, (2) the team that can’t get a bid to a toilet bowl even if our lives depended on it. Be on the lookout for another loser coach who needs some millions to retire. We are happy to fund them.

I’m tired of hearing how good Tony White and his defense is. No it’s not good at all and what we’ve seen is regression! I thought the 3-3-5 was supposed to send pressure from all over the field?
Barely ran any blitzes and shocker…another backup QB has the game or his life against our defense.
This is so true. I thought we’d see a defense on fire. Have to say it but some of Chin’s ads showed more fire than what we have seen.

And now we play Wisconsin who barely lost to the #1 team in the nation. My bowl conference level is near zero.

I'd be perfectly content at this juncture in Rhules career for the entire staff to not come back.  Our OL can't run Dana's offense in regards to the run game using counters and different gap schemes. They can't pull or kick out.  Receivers get no separation. DR scared to throw the ball and misses wide open guys.  Coach needs to tell him to quit pretending you're PM.  You're not. If you leave, you leave.

I'm completely sick of 9 years of not going bowling.  Rhule had to win 1 of 4 last year.  1 of 6 this year. And chokes.  I'm sick of his schtick.  Done.  Just pack up and leave.

Go after Matt Entz from USC (LB coach and asst HC for defense).  Former HC at NDSU.  Playoffs all 5 years as HC with 2 NC's....Was Kliemans DC for 5 years and went 69-6. Winner.  If not as HC, then DC.

Jamey Chadwell.  Winner.  Offensive guru.  "Innovator/inventer" of his system.

Chris Klieman.  Winner.  Look what he did with AM.  Winner.

I'm pi$$ed.  Missed the game, but same s#!t. Prime had it right last year.  Y'all can blame the coaches, but you were all part of a 1-11 team. You accepted it.  Embraced it. Allowed it to happen.

No starter would play the next 2 games. We are not going bowling so get the extra practice time for the guys who might have a shot to change this weak a$$ quitter mentality. s#!t is contagious as herpes in a hot tub.  End rant.

Only hope to beast Wisky or Iowa is go all Jamal Lord and start HH.  Dude is our best running back.  He can run as far as Raiola's been throwing.  And can't have more INT's than he does.  At least he runs.  Wouldn't slide 2 yards short, miss open receivers etc....Rhule needs to get a plan plan together then throw it out.  Do the exact opposite of what he wanted.  Because his way has us sitting at home this year.

I learned that I am far better off staying in the yard, raking leaves or whatever, than drinking my liver into oblivion watching the game, getting excited about stealing a win only to have my hopes and dreams crushed in the end.

I Agee. Let HH have the ball and have EJ in the backfield. Seems HH had a few opportunities and then we went away from it today

How is Rhule a good developer?

This is why I took family to nice dinner when 4th quarter started. I saw the writing on the wall. This team is so predictable, you can tell if they will lose or win by watching first drive of the game. Rhule’s body language tells you he has zero confidence in himself or the team. His decisions say it all. When he accepted the 10 second run-off, that told me he knew he was going to lose. He has been a huge disappointment.

The hilarious thing about starting Ricky Haarberg is that it would pretty much ensure causing Raiola to transfer.

Nobody saw this kind of commentary coming at this juncture prior to the season started, absolutely nobody. LOL.

"Start the guy almost everybody hated last year."

I’m curious does anyone else feel like we did enough to win the game but just didn’t? Like the defense made enough plays to win the game and yet not just enough. And the offense and special teams didn’t downright lose the game. Such a strange game. Not saying we did everything to deserve to win, though
