Iowa - What Did We Learn?

Iowa are boring and not imaginative at all but they never beat themselves. They had one penalty all game and they did not turn the ball over. Their ST flipped the field all night and they had good returns. On the other hand, our ST did what it has done all year long. Manage to find ways to lose us the game. The fact the Ed Foley was not fired six games ago speaks volumes about what Rhule thinks about ST and their importance. We have yet to have a good game where all three phases of the game played well. That is coaching.
You’re spot on- not a single game all phases played sound football for 4 quarters in the same game. By product of having a staff full of 20 year olds and guys who have never held a p5 position of this magnitude.

same s#!t that did frosty in, just different side of the ball. Special teams about the same s#!t show for both

Arguably no other fan base has endured more BS over the past decade and yet stayed loyal and supportive to their team more than the Husker fan base. Neither the coaches nor the players deserve this support the way they perform on the field. To lose the way they lost today shows that they are unappreciative of all the support and loyalty they have received from the fans. They showed zero grit, determination, or toughness, which were the hallmarks of the Huskers in the 90s. What we have now is the laughing stock of power 4 football.

At least we are going to a bowl. What an accomplishment Rhule. Keep feeding us your empty words and hollow promises. In return, we will keep the sell out streak alive so you can keep getting richer. Win-win, right?

The most disappointing thing about Matt Rhule year 2 was that the team didn't seem to get better compared to last year.

But overall, while there was improvement in the turnover margin, the massive special teams regression and the anti-clutch gene that has infected every QB that touches the ball at the end of games was deadly. The 2024 team is only slightly better than the 2023 team.

The 2025 Huskers will be losing their most important players, Ty and Nash. The schedule will be favorable but Nebraska has a lot of holes on the roster.

I was 90% sure I was making the bowl trip, that’s dropped to about 20% right now, we’ll see how I feel in the morning.

The losses are one thing, now I can’t shake the thought this progrum is the equivalent of an entitled spoiled child who’s lazy af and living off their parents money.  Haven’t earned anything notable in 10+ years, always caves when the going gets tough, and constantly provides embarassing bulletin board material for other teams to just throw back at us

until we get a set of coaches and players willing to earn it, that won’t change any time soon

Yeah I don’t feel anything about the bowl. Going 6-6 is not an accomplishment. Congrats on being mediocre. No doubt they’ll lose and finish 6-7.

Yup. We improved in turnovers simply cause of Jeff Simms and Anthony grant were not on this team. Yet we still finished the season with a negative turnover margin.  Our defense didn’t improve one bit in manufacturing turnovers

special teams continues to be a bottom 5-10 unit in the country.

offense had way more to work with but was led by the same inept coordinator.

mentally, we’re still fragile.  We can’t put teams away and can’t make the play with the game on the line.  Easiest way to fix this is to not be in the position where one missed play swings a game.  Unfortunately until we start fielding a competent special teams and getting some skills guys who show up for ones, it won’t change

I learned that some fans will reflexively blame the coaches no matter what. Muffed punt, bad snap, horrible failed tackle, QB fumble, ball right through a receiver’s hands…. All we needed was for some players to make a play and too many didn’t at critical times. It’s that simple. But go ahead and blame the coaches.
While I agree with you that players need to make the plays, it falls on the coaches to instill a winning mentality in their players. These players have no fear of consequences whether they make mistakes or cost us a game. Fidone makes mistakes yet he finds himself back on the field next game making the same stupid mistakes. So, is that on Fidone or on the coaches who don't seem to be able to teach him fundamentals. Nayor makes a catch and we win. What are coaches going to do to correct that? Nothing. I bet he makes the same exact mistake next game. If Rhule is a player developer, then why don't we see a single player whose play improved from the start of the season.

I agree with you in that players are to blame for our piss poor performance but coaches are being paid millions to develop these players. If players keep making costly mistakes then why do we keep seeing them on the field. If they don't lose they starting position then what is their motivation to work harder. We simply have a team, coaches and players, that seem to be OK with losing close games and are not bothered by it. Otherwise, they would have taken measures not to keep pissing their pants when it matters most.

Hartzog can make a tackle for a loss. It’s almost like he learned that humans run with their legs! Imagine that!

singleton still hasn’t learned to tackle. He must not know that humans run with their legs.

if you fumble the ball and you still have it on your stomach, if you don’t stand up holding it, it’s a fumble. Conversely, you can have a fumble recovery with one hand while pressing the ball against the opposing players body and not touching any other part of your body, you recovered the fumble. (Wut?!? Really?!?)

Losing Bullock, Ty, and Nash will hurt, but we will improve a lot on both offense and  defense when some of these guys go. That screen pass should have never been a td. How can Neyor not catch that ball? How can Benhart and Fidone whiff on blocks that often??

I’m ok with how the offense was run. We just had plays out there to be made that weren’t. Including DR missing on throws and open WR’s.  We got an NFL QB coach, but didn’t seem like that helped. Unless DR was worse than what we saw today, Or he doesn’t take to coaching.

special teams is trash and it will be special to see if we keep the coach or not.

Its 4am and im still pissed.  Not drunk but f#&%ing pissed, every god dam year we choke the last game.  The writing is on the wall every year, just find a way, keep your foot on the gas.  All Dylan had to do was not fumble the f#&%ing ball, just one f#&%ing thing.  So sick of this s#!t.

What are you talking about, “the last game” ? Um we do this regularly.

I suppose there's a certain freedom in knowing you are mediocre and accepting you will lose games.  The fact NU consistently loses to Big10 teams that are the football equivalent of a deadfall trap is embarrassing.

another staggering loss that should have never happened

That Iowa team REALLY sucked and we still found the will and a way to lose. Nothing has changed. On paper you would have guessed a 28-0 blowout. Nope....

Pelini is still laughing his a$$ off at us a decade later...
As he should be.

By now, Bo would be at 150 career wins.  I know the people that are still scared of Bo will RUN to this post to tell us how Bo would have never won another game at NU.  But it was a huge mistake firing him.

Foley should be canned and the secondary coach as well.
