New DC

Simpson is an upgrade IMO. The main reason we have the good FL kids on our team including Mills who we just got (his former HS coach).

Maybe it was mentioned but I hear the DC from SMU being thrown around. He runs a multiple defense who gets after the QB. Runs 3 and 4 man fronts and creates confusion on the LOS.

Scott Symons (SMU DC)has had multiple top 25 defenses which is impressive and is a finalist for the Broyles Award which goes to the top assistant coach. Thanks for mentioning his name.  I think he would be a home run hire for sure.

This is a Mozee type hire, except for Florida.  My guess is this was more of a recruiting hire than an X's and O's hire.

I actually think he is a good X’s and O’s coach.  He was 23-4 at Homestead HS in Florida and led them to the state title game in 2022.  
 

Either way, it is a very good hire.

My money’s on Symons. Lots of rumors swirling about him and it’s a Texas connection that Rhule favors. Good get too. Would make sense the announcement would be delayed until after their game on Saturday.
