Memorial Stadium Renovation

Allstate could sponsor nets that go up in sections around the stadium, like hockey.  Potential bad call and all the yellow shirt blue hairs start putting the nets up.  Bottles and Runzas rain down on the first few rows.
Bottles?  There will surely be felonies.

(..and don’t call me Shirley..etc..) We need to go with juice boxes for all beverages.  Big ones, okay.

Not glass.  That’d be like Roadhouse.

#1 or #2 plastic 20oz.  Could spice it up with loose cap and some urine.  Trucker style.

Ha. I'm not trying to rile anyone up. I've talked about this before, probably in this very thread.

It would be a great solution to one of Memorial Stadium's biggest problems - it is in an awful location. There's very little parking near the stadium itself, and as a result the tailgating scene is really dicey. One giant lot of fans all tailgating together would be ideal. Plus, starting from the ground up would give us the opportunity too create a stadium that would last another century.

But that's all pie-in-the sky stuff. Unless Uncle Warren drops a billion dollars on UNL, there's no chance we could do this.
The tailgating scene has kind of deteriorated with the building up of everything west of 10th street. It used to be awesome 10 or 15 years ago because there were so many surface lots downtown that you could walk anywhere and find a good tailgate then mosey on over to the game while hitting bars and more tailgates along the way.

That said, the proximity to the entire downtown bar scene is still a huge draw imo.

New turf coming to Hawks and Memorial Stadium before next season.

Not digging the black on the sidelines and around the end zone lettering. Red in the endzones is nice though if they get rid of the red outside the sidelines.

It's too much like Rutgers. I don't see what was wrong with the red lettering on green.

They are, but it will be another 3 years or so. They are putting in new turf for the short term.
There are two things at play:

1) Trev went cheap on the turf in the most recent replacement, and it already needs to be replaced.

2) The move to grass won’t happen as soon as initially expected.  It has something to do with not being able to get the equipment and machinery in the field area itself to do the switch to grass in the current configuration.

Easy fix, just tear off south stadium to install grass and go ahead and upgrade.

I believe what Dannen actually indicated is that since heavy machinery would be in doing other projects in the stadium he wanted to wait so that machinery wouldn't be on grass working.  Also, I think they pretty much know what they are doing with south stadium as he said it all needs to come down and that we should be seeing something early in the year.  This was all on his November Sports Nightly appearance IIRC.
