That seating system looks amazing and very versatile..  Wonder if seeing the things they were doing on this project had any impact on Dannen pulling the plug on ours...

No more bench sardine seating.  Phase 1 KU stadium, nice fold-up chairs, kinda like movie theater seats

One year later, March 2025. Upgrades completed in time for the 2025 football season. Seating capacity will be reduced from 47,000 ..... because no more sardine attendees. Article below claimed fans can expect a 50% increase in area per seat and 50% more leg room throughout the stadium.

BTW, unique light towers.

I know second or third previous posts but the fourth picture as below. Forgive me, @knapplc

38,000 capacity. My guess not a sellout except Huskers at Northwestern (2027 schedule)

Update mentioned in the podcast -

2027 is the construction season, lose 20% seating -  mostly south stadium, one plan is to build south stadium base and put temporary bleachers on top. South Stadium will take 2 years (1 season). Next update to public in summer time, he mentioned  a goal of getting stuff appoved at the June meeting.

Another proposed plan ....

Suggestion: Use Turner construction contract.  Only 2 years 1 season for the entire KU massive renovation stadium :B)

Trivial question: KSU and Northwestern shared both purple colors, same Wildcat nicknames and Willie the Wildcat mascots.  Who is the first ?

It's much easier to demo a whole stadium and start fresh, than to work around an existing structure and foot print. Also, KU's stadium didn't have much around it like ours does interm of other buildings in close proximity.

I may be wrong, but because the stadium itself is a war memorial I don't think they can tear the whole thing down.  I believe the Chicago Bears ran into the same problem when they first wanted to rebuild Soldier Field.  They had to keep the outside portion and that's why it looks like a space ship landed on top of the old  stadium.

They need to have the East Side bleachers painted red, with fans wearing red.  And the West Side bleachers painted white, with fans wearing white.

And North and South painted gray and black and allow the fans wear gray or black or tan.

Or is the year 2025 too soon for messing with fans required to wear all red?

I'm all for traditions, but most of them went away with the days of Callahan and those other mid coaches.

If you change it up, like most cool places do, go for it.  Even the baseball team wears charcoal uniforms (bad-a$$) and the hoops team wears beige at times.

I'm all for changing it all up.  Get some grass field.  Add black and charcoal to the uniforms and helmets, remove some of the red and (please stay away from the blue outline of numbers to celebrate 1914).

Just a thought.   :)   We used to have thoughts on HB back in 2006 and 2008.  No harm was ever done at that time.

I think you should have gone to bed earlier.

Man I gotta say, that video… editing, music, and “sneak peak” of that stadium and surrounding area is really good.
I played in that stadium and have been to KU campus a few times  in the 90s and it always kinda seemed like a dump at the bottom of the “Hill”.  The underground tunnels and multiuse is gonna be great for that campus. Gotta give respect, that’s a pretty dope new happening there.
