Dude, my students leave SOOOO many Stanley's and Hydroflasks and Owalas behind. So I let them collect in my room for a few weeks and then they are MINE!Teaching, the only profession where you steal office supplies at home to use for your students at school.
You need to start a thrift store where the money goes to teachers. I have a crap load of stuff to donate. Including Nerf guns, I had that I gave my kids. I think I still have a few iPods somewhere.Dude, my students leave SOOOO many Stanley's and Hydroflasks and Owalas behind. So I let them collect in my room for a few weeks and then they are MINE!

Well, the 3 months off is not really a valid argument. At some point, I figure the teaching salary and benefits in this country will get fixed, especially in cities. But people don't like their taxes going up.
Spare me the 3 months off crap. I watch my wife grade papers for 2 to 3 hours a night.
This. And we work what we signed a contract for; it's not like those are "freebee" months. At some point, I figure the teaching salary and benefits in this country will get fixed, especially in cities. But people don't like their taxes going up.

My contract is for 185 days. Our pay is just spread out over 12 months but I am not getting paid for the summer.

i have gone to work on remodeling projects in the local school right after school lets out for the summer. the amount of cloths, shoes, coats, jewelry, etc.. that they leave in the lockers to be cleaned out is impressive. there will be carts full of stuff in the hallways as they clean out the lockers. When fall hits and they start wearing hoddies, it is like I work at a clothing store!!
Would that put teacher pay at around $38-$40/hr for an experienced teacher?Well, the 3 months off is not really a valid argument.
