I guess some firefighters trucks got vandalized the other night...no, it was not me, but they showed the trucks and of course they were the most truckiest trucks ever...

I bet they broke the windows themselves while taking shirtless pictures for their dating sites.

Being completely serious. I’ve never met/really known a firefighter I liked. That’s only been like 3 guys but they were all dícks.

Lived next to one for a few years. Fúcker used to clean out his paint trays on my side lawn. Guess the paint wasn’t good for his grass but it was okay for mine.

Research done about a decade ago tracked the amount of work teachers did and divided it into 8-hour days.  The average teacher in the study worked 374 8-hour days a year.  Even during the summer, teachers must take classes and do other work to maintain their licenses.

I’m glad I teach in NE.  I have never had to take extra classes outside contract hours to maintain a license.  I did get my Masters to move higher in the pay scale, but it wasn’t required.

Millard used to claim that you had get your Masters or be working towards it to keep your job but I don't know how "real" that was...

I worked with a lady who got moved over to be the school librarian but of course, you need a masters of library science to be able to check out books to kids for some reason. 

She did not have that degree but she said she would start working towards it...and I think she did, for one year.  I was talking to her in her second or third year of being the librarian and I said "Hey, how are those classes going for you to get your masters?"

And she looked around the library and said in a hushed voice "I am retiring in a few years, so I just stopped taking the classes and no one has said anything, so I am just to to ride it out". Ha! 

I think she did one or two more years and got the heck out of there.  I don't know if they ever knew she wasn't taking classes anymore, they might have known and just didn't care.

I posted the above because the dude is a far leftist who I’m sure is b!^@hing and moaning about the current administration talking about getting rid of Dept of Education while he simultaneously tells us the Dept of Education is failing our kids apparently.  
I do have a few suggestions regardless of Federal involvement……

1) get rid of teacher unions 

2) Parents need to be more involved in their kids educational success.  NOT necessarily the curriculum taught, but involved in making sure the student is doing what is supposed to be done and helping the student out at home.   This is probably the biggest factor outside of just being born with a greater capacity to learn for student success imo.  
3). Allow students from non-accredited schools to transfer to accredited schools.   Unfortunately transportation would have to be on their own as I don’t see how it would work otherwise.   IF the Department of Education wants to get involved, give grants to higher many many more SRO’s located in higher crime areas.

4) Experiment with the phone policy and have a happy medium where phone use isn’t  allowed in class, just in passing periods. 
5)  include various vocational tech curriculum into the HS diploma so students have the option of learning toward a profession out of HS vs only learning towards going to college.

1) I would love to see this, but it's not going to happen.  

2) Totally agree, but the educational system doesn't have control over that.  It's a societal issue, not an educational system issue.

3) Not against this.

4) Phones should not be allowed to be used during class unless the instructor specifically asks them to use it for something (calculator, research something on line...etc.)

5) This is already being developed in many school systems.  Should be promoted more.

My issue with Republicans on this issue is their answer is...."Get rid of the department of education".  But....then they want to dictate from Washington what is done in the classroom.  Those two things don't go together.

If you have a problem with what is happening in education and you want to influence it from Washington to make sure all kids are getting the best education possible....that's exactly what the department of education is there to do.  So....fix the department, instead of closing the whole thing down and pushing everything to the states.
