Unfortunately the rumor is true. It was a booster's wife. TO wanted to fire him, but Bo said if he goes, then I go. The chancellor got involved and nothing of this sort is listed in his code of conduct agreement. He will not be fired. From what I understand, TO was not too happy being one-up'd.

This is just such rubbish. You act as if TO couldn't possibly stomach the thought of a coach doing something like this. You have zero concept, apparently, of what our coaches were like in the 80s and 90s.

To act as if Osborne would be out for Carl's head because Carl slept around with some booster's wife is a stereotype, nothing more.

Why do people believe this garbage?

Don't shoot the messenger!!!!!!! Just adding to an already ongoing story/speculation.........I am fully aware of what went on in years past. TO gave Phillips another chance after dragging a woman down a flight of stairs by her hair. I'm sure he will make his peace with this in time. The decision to immediately dismiss Carl was probably premature.

Bottom line........This shameful (but not fire-able) situation DID happen. Time to move on to 2010.........

Like I said earlier, one source works in the Athletic Dept, the other is a former player (recent). They don't know each other and are both plugged in to the university. Stories exactly the same.

I know you don't know me as I just heard about this site, but I trust my sources.

Friend's mom works in Athletic Department. Also best friend is a cop in Omaha, his partner played there. Says it has been going on for 3 months and the University is scrambling trying to keep it quiet.

I don't doubt there is some truth to your story, but I also know there are many faults in it. That's all I'm going to say.

Which is exactly why people take these things with a huge grain of salt.

I find it hard to believe Osborne let anyone (besides Bo and the chancellor) know he wanted Carl fired until it was done. IF the rumors about the affair are true, I'd believe that the AD staff noticed some closed door meetings and unhappy faces, but that's about it. Even Pedey kept his decision to fire Solich quiet until it happened.

Knapplc I heard this rumor today from my father. My father is somebody who doesn't like rumors nor does he spread rumors like these. My Father heard this rumor from his buddy who has a lady friend that knows a guy that is involved with the boosters somehow and is in charge of preparing and arranging the boosters dinners, parties, etc. This guy told this lady who told my fathers buddy that the rumor is true and that Carl's wife kicked him out for sleeping with a boosters wife and now Carl is staying at Bo's house.

I heard that they (boosters, TO, Pearlman, don't know who) wanted to fire Carl but Bo said if Carl goes, Bo goes. I was also told that the booster was a former linebacker who played for Nebraska sometime in the 80's. My father told me the name but for the life of me I can't think of the players name. I can call my father tomorrow to get the name if that is important.

I'm not that type of person to start rumors but if I believe someone in this case my father than I'll pass the info. I've only started one thread in Rumorville and that was back when we were searching for a new coach. I didn't believe this Carl rumor when Epoc annouced it to everybody and if you don't believe me than go scan thru that thread to find my postings.

Whether it is true or not, I don't see why he would get fired. Adultry happens all the time. It isn't right but one donor wouldn't make or break our program to my knowledge.

huskerjock, thanks for adding another report. It seems like there is indeed a lot of smoke. I do feel it's probably best to leave names out of it, though - not that it's necessarily unimportant, but out of respect for the privacy of the people involved. It's an intensely personal situation in all respects and the details of it, probably none of us have any business knowing.

I'm kind of sad to see that this is likely true. That said, I'm not sure I would agree with the inclination of the higher ups to fire him, and if I were Bo I'd sure as heck stick up for him as well. I wonder what kind of effect this will have on the team. Maybe the best thing to do is to just not keep blowing up over it on the internet. It can turn out to be a real distraction for something that's probably already very serious, personal, and distracting.

Sounds like rock solid proof to me!

And of course this stuff is supposed to be here. The Mods/Admins aren't going to kill it because it's in its proper place. This is what Rumorville is for. Doesn't mean it's true or untrue if it's here.

Many people, myself included, petitioned to have Rumorville revived from the dead. Lots of people will use it to divulge rumors they heard, lots will use it to post complete bunk, and some (like me) have a grand old time poking holes in theories. It's all good.
