  • Alex Gordon retiring.

Helluva run.  Bummed that he won't get that big fan sendoff on Sunday.  I imagine the Royals will do something top shelf for Gordon in terms of a video montage.  Incredibly impressive the way he was able to reinvent his career and not only hang on but turn into arguably the best defensive LF in the game.

The pressure for Gordo to become the "next George Brett" had to be tough on him early in his career.  His move to LF allowed him to be his own player.  There was a stretch where Gordo was among the top outfielders in terms of WAR each year, mostly based on his defense.

Sad day. Gordo was a great player and representative of Nebraska and we were lucky to watch him succeed at a high level for so long. Hope he enjoys transitioning to the next phase of his life.

    Sincerely,

A Mets fan still pissed about that 2015 World Series

NU has offered a 2023 OL from Timber Creek in Orlando, Florida named TJ Shanahan (I believe).  I don't know him but I was informed by some of his 2022 teammates I've coached.  You can verify on his twitter page.

    Spielman officially gone

Any one know why he left?

@ladyhawke I would love to know, but I doubt if we ever do as fans....unless it's a long time down the road  and he does an interview and it's asked.  Even then, we might not know the real story.

I hope he finds what he’s looking for. Odd that he would wait this long to leave. If he would rather play lacrosse then this is a perfect opportunity for him to do so.

The status updates were already going well beyond noting things that were happening.  So several of them have been hidden and we're back to political talk needs to stay in the P&R Forum.

@Moiraine Yeah, I’m aware. I was just commenting on how fast it became necessary to once again relegate them to P&R. I thought it was a good idea to try a temporary allowance given current affairs. But unsurprisingly it wasn’t handled very well. Seemed to me like some P&R regulars wanted to make sure any vaguely related discussion stay off the front page and in P&R whereas originally that policy wasn’t received too well.

I think it was obvious it was heading nowhere good. Just quicker than even I expected.

@JJ Husker  I think I only saw one post from a "P&R regular" but maybe there were others that were deleted.

To be fair a few of those topics weren't exactly news, it was just bait-y articles that I saw passed around reddit's political subs all day that day and the loaded question belonged in P&R anyways.  I missed anything after I posted but I'll imagine it was entertaining and that I did my part I guess.

Per Twitter, today - 02022020 - is the first format-agnostic palindrome day in 909 years (since 11111111)

    Nevermind!

I think the next one, but just in the American format, is 12022021. But those probably aren't rare. In fact I just thought of one; 11022011.

I love how they have to call it "classics" these days instead of just calling it "oldies" like they used to. People like Mavric don't like being reminded that they're old. ;)

Only took halfway through the first quarter for ESPN to push the "it means more for Michigan than Alabama" narrative.

I thought it always meant more in the $EC.

    It kind of does though.

According to my Twitter, "University of LSU" is trending.  I hear they have a great Department of Redundancy Department.

Well, the state University of Louisiana at the University of LSU is one of the better Universities in Louisiana state.

Kids school christmas program tonight.  My son is excited because the baritone part he plays in Jingle Bells is a harmony part that he says sounds a lot like Bohemian Rhapsody. #winning

1750 miles of driving in the past 59 hours.  That's enough.

They have these things called airplanes that make traveling more convenient. :D

Unfortunately you have to live near those things call airports to take advantage of said airplanes.   :D

It would have been a three hour drive to the airport, get there two hours early, two hour flight, an hour or better getting out of the airport and getting the rental car and another hour drive to Waco.  So that's at least 9 hours of travel time to fly vs about 12 hours to drive.  And it was a bit cheaper on the ground.
