***2016 Recruiting***

Jackson (DB)

Fitzpatrick (WR)

Farniok (OL)

Butler (DB)

----------------------------

Simmons (WR/S)

Watts (DT)

We need to close on 4/6 of these recruits to finish strong. I think we have a very good chance at the first 4. The other two are visiting in January.
I think they need 2 DEs as well.
Yep. I like these recruits as quality ones we need and also agree DE continues to be a position of need.

I would rather get a juco DE at this point. I think Davis and Neal could end up having good careers for us.

A JUCO DE and 1-2 HS DEs would be better

Strong finish could land Husker football recruiting class in top 25

<snip>

Nebraska’s chances could improve if it lands a few of its top targets:

» Offensive tackles Matt Farniok, Royce Newman, Alaric Jackson and Jauan Williams. Nebraska won’t get them all, but needs at least two, since the Huskers are at low tide at the position. NU likely has a starting tackle for the next several seasons in Nick Gates, but David Knevel and Christian Gaylord are the only other true tackles on the roster.

» Butler (Kansas) Community College defensive end Tramal Ivy. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder decommitted from Oklahoma State just before the recruiting dead period started in December. Recruiting resumes after the College Football Playoff championship game. “He’s basically scratched the surface of how good he could be,” Butler coach and defensive coordinator Tim Schaffner said. “He’s really young in terms of his development.”Ivy, originally from Muskogee, Oklahoma, was so much better than other players in high school that he’s just learning how to handle college-level players, Schaffner said. Ivy will benefit from a major-college weight program, as well.

» High school safeties Lamar Jackson of Elk Grove, California, and Tony Butler of Lakewood, Ohio. Nebraska potentially leads for both, but West Coast programs — USC and UCLA for Jackson, Arizona State for Butler — could play spoilers for the Huskers. Jackson is the No. 88 player in the nation according to 247Sports’ Composite service.

» Defensive lineman Amir Watts of Chicago. Originally a fullback in high school, Watts had a spectacular senior season at Phillips Academy, finishing with 134 tackles, 34 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Trieu said Watts is a “great athlete.” Nebraska is in the mix, as are Indiana, Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Miami.

» Wideout Desmond Fitzpatrick of Farmington, Michigan. He has been NU’s top wide receiver target for some time, and the Huskers will have to fend off Louisville and Arizona, among others, for his services.

Well it won't be forced... Guys are guaranteed 4 year Scholarships now in big 10. I hope some guys stick there feet in the ground and refuse.

We've lost 5-10 players to attrition per year since BC/BP transition. I don't mind telling/guiding a kid to transfer out if he is one or the combination of 1) he turned out to be a dud and won't get playing time at this level b) he is trouble off the field 3) he is trouble in the locker room and is a cancer to the team.

90s players pride themselves when they say they weeded the weak out. Whether they came in on hype, acted like it, and stunk, they also say they picked on transfers too. My point, in certain situations I hope the players get to the point of weeding the wannabe's out so the coaches don't have to micro manage personalities too.

Huskers will be paying a visit to Fishers, Indiana DE Collin Miller on the first day after the dead period. He's also looking to visit Lincoln later this month.

Hometown of Randy Gregory. No offer yet. Has visited Syracuse and Indiana.
