2022 World Cup

Can’t be too unhappy with that draw. Iran is winnable. The Playoff winner is winnable. England wets the bed once every four years so we could get out of that group.

Getting to the KO round is imperative for this draw.  If they do not, this will be a major WC disappointment.

As a former defender, that penalty in the box was about as boneheaded of a play you can make.   There was no need to go in that hard on a challenge.   His back was to the goal, he wasn't in a scoring threat.  Body up and stay in front of him.   The only way he could have made a worse decision was to earn a card with it.   Just plain dumb.

Yes, seems like since the days of Arenas the back 4 has been questionable at best

And my point to getting good athletes, in soccer, the US doesn't get the cream of the crop or even near the top, for the most part in terms of athletes in the country.  Every other country will get cream of the crop.  If the US can improve that, we can be mentioned as serious contenders to win the Cup.   Right now, the best we can hope for is to advance to knock out stage and maybe once in awhile to the quarterfinals.
Messi, Lewa, Neymar all wouldn’t be considered cream of the crop athletes by an American standard. Sure, elite athleticism can push a player over the top as in like Alphonso Davies or Mbappe, but you still need that technical ability.

2026 the US will be a great team assuming we have a good coach. The depth is growing.
