2024 Transfer Portal Ins/Outs

I hope to hell he wanted more money, who wouldn't?

The "work ethic" thing, that is almost always coach speak for "I don't like this kid". Unless the kid literally just stood around during practice, it probably just isn't super true.

Now, he very well might be a jerk, that is more likely.

It's really not hard to imagine immature teenagers earning too much money too early and being treated with deference by all the adults in the room, then starting to believe they can say, do, act, and practice however they want because it's worked for them so far. A lot of them equate respect with money, and that's a bad formula for sports where the guys with a fierce work ethic typically surpass the guys who demand respect they still haven't earned.

While we can understand a grown man changing jobs every year as the opportunities and salary bumps arise, is hard to root for a college football team where every player is a mercenary. I hate checking the portal every day.

I feel like as I have gotten older I sort of followed the players less and the team more, if that makes sense.  I often times don't know a lot of the players anymore and I am okay with that but I do find myself turning into my mom, where I watch the games and cheer and high five but have no idea who just scored the TD.

Also, most of the players getting big money do have an insane work ethic.  I think for a long time we have loved to romanticize the idea that the kid with no real talent just had so much heart and outworked everyone...but the truth is, guys with great talent that make it to the D1 level also tend to have great work ethic.  Of course there are exceptions but there are far more super talented and hard working guys playing D1 FB and far less No-talent big heart guys playing D1 FB.

Im guessing these kids get tons of phone calls once they enter the portal. He knew we're he was going & did not want any outside noise.
This

Their phones BLOW up with texts and I am sure it gets annoying really fast.

Same.  I really don't see a reason to become a fan of an individual player anymore.  I couldn't list all the RBs and their jersey numbers we had this year.  Most of the time, had no clue which one was in the game.

Anyone know if Rhule & Company are rabidly pursuing Nate Boerkircher? Damn I hope so... Bring him home Rhule.. Pay the man!!!

The vibe from the press conference was that we would like him back and have let him know that, but understand he's seeing what opportunities are out there. My assumption is that means we're not really interested in promising playing time or upping whatever NIL he's making, but I could be wrong. I'd like him back, but he's pretty far down the list of potential impact players if we're being honest.

I usually watch games with my friends and when a sweet play happens I am like "Ohhhh, who was that" because I usually just don't know anymore.

Not trying to gatekeep being a fan here, but there aren't many changes that happen after the summer. Replace Anthony Grant with Dante Dowdell (Dowdell even conveniently took Grant's old number) and it was the exact same RB room as 2023.

Sure there are going to be out of nowhere players, particularly on defense - but that was always the case to some degree. What difference does it make if that new guy you hadn't heard about came from another school versus emerging from the bottom of the depth chart here? I'm not going to pretend I immediately know every player on the field, but if you read a few season previews there were no real surprises. I don't think it's significantly more difficult to know who the players are, you just have to wait until the spring instead of having a decent idea at the end of the previous year.

If I could give Norvell some advice, I’d let him know that going after a back-up linebacker at a 6-6 program is not how you get back to relevancy.
I get your point, but he played on the #18 defense (by PPG allowed) last year and knows the new defensive system which is valuable. FSU's defense ranked 88th.
