Question for people who follow Husker baseball more than I do.
Is them sucking so bad a surprise to you? Were they supposed to be decent coming into the season and they just aren't?
Under performing a little more this year than usual. However, the slow starts come down to the same things that they normally encounter
Having most games on the road because of cold Nebraska weather.
-Teams in warmer climate get to have a lot of home games. It can effect the hitters, pitchers and defense and high confidence. So that's a disadvantage for Nebraska each year.
Bats and Lineups.
- The hitters tend to strikeout a lot, press at times, and not find consistency at the plate. The lineup changes a lot after the first week.
Pitching Defense and Injuries
- This year the injuries to the pitching staff has caused more low quality starts and needing bullpen help to chew up innings
I think the pitching and hitting is subpar this year. This team cannot consistently put together enough runs when the pitching suffers, and the pitching cannot carry the offense when it struggles. In other words, for this year, the team has to score often and pitch well in the same game to collect a win.
To be honest, the Huskers might be better than what they have shown so far and could go on a solid win streak here and there. Especially as the weather improves and play more home games. But that's mostly a nice, positive thing to say. I just don't see this team finishing above .500 in the conf this year. And Bolt is the Manager coming off a Big Ten Championship, with a few years making the playoffs.
