2025 Spring Practice Notes - Offensive Line

Doesn't this point to a lack of coaching and recruiting ?

Well kind of. The hope was that someone like Brock Knutson would be ready for this position but he may be a fringe D1 lineman for one reason or another. I think Gunnar could be a good LT, and I thought he played very well. But it seems that the staff wants him at RT for the next three years, which I see for him as well.

Their biggest misses have been at LT and now they are focusing on high-upside guys at that position, with hoping they can outbid for one in the portal. The top HS LT's are not going to come here yet.

Thanks for the response\insight

I think winning solves that position, along with RB. We have a big year and some elite talent will get back filled. I just don't see us waiting on a young LT while Dylan is here. We will see how it plays out with Gunnar gets back because he may solve that issue going into '26.
Your not going to get a elite back when you dont showcase that position. Maybe its due to talent but i feel we have had the backs to be a true #1 and get the majority of the carries. But year after year we play one for a game or 2 then go with another one.  No elite RB wants to go some some where its a revolving door. I believe thats why EJ was getting out of here> With Dana i think we will have a Said #1 and get the majority carries then everyone else.

I think we've overused the starting back and they've run down after a few games. It's why we see 2-3 games where a back looks good and then drops off. I'm not sure what the answer is though.

I think Nebraska will get back to getting elite backs again. I like Parker a lot and if they get Dezephen Walker, that would be a really good get. An elite back for the class if you will.

Upper Classmen - Pritchett, Rocco, Lutovsky, Prochazka, Corcoran, JEJ, Knaak.

Gunnar Gottula is a soph but has game experience.  Got a few other sophs making their mark, like Sledge and Maciejczak,  The rest of guys are mostly pups.  A bunch of RFR and Freshmen.

But, I do think they can find a solid starting 5 and a good group of 8 or possibly 9 linemen for depth and rotation.

Sounds like Evans is trending towards the Center spot

Spindler basically a lock at RG

Pritchett very likely to be the LT

Not sure who the next likely LG is if Evans moves to the middle.

JEJ needs to become a center.  Be the center.  At 6'0 feet tall, this offense really has no other option for him.

Just because Nebraska "Huskers.com" says he's "6'1" - it does not mean that at all.  They are never legit when reporting height and weight. In fact, Jenkins might be just 5'11....for how much they exaggerate.   :LOLtartar

But I will say that JEJ has shown that he is a pretty good blocker at times the past few seasons.  Here and there.  Fighting and improving.

I like him and he is okay.  But... is he powerful and Big Ten football size?  Nope.  How about SEC size? Oh heck no, No way!  How about South Dakota size as a Guard?  Hmmm, Okay, sure, sure.  Why not.

Center.  Dude needs to be the Center.  Can worry about Left Guard in the same way we worried about it the last few years.  Even with Justin Jenkins being the LG last season. When he was shorter than Dowdell and the same height as Emmett Johnson.

He's still working at RT as of yesterday
Makes me wonder if he is cross training. I do not see it personally. Unless they think the Gottula injury is going to be brutal. Depth is a question mark there. Tuner and Teddy cannot stay healthy. Knaak you could maybe move there in a pinch as I thought he was currently at guard. A lot easier to replace a guard than a tackle.

Getting another OT would've been huge for spring ball. Shiyazh Pete or the Oregon OT in particular.
