2026 Season Notes

From a quick question or two to a relatively current former player(s) whom are still connected to the team suggest it is a $$ issue. Take it for what is worth…

supposedly UNL won’t revenue share with baseball program bc it is non revenue(downfall of using Saltdogs facilities)… NIL has never been strong for baseball… apparently just down to our 14.5 scholly…. Also was told that the $$ for living is going away.  The player I talked to was getting over $200 a week and heard that was being taken away…. Was also told that unfortunately, more names to follow.

again, I am not swearing on this or claim for it all to be true, but just what I was able to quickly dig up.

if this is remotely accurate, the staff, whether you like them or not, will be hamstrung and will struggle getting guys. I saw where the recruitment of Cooper was pulled and that is why he formerly decommited, creating a negative vibe from some fans.
Sorry, this was on Cooper. If you didn’t sign in November, then you were not promised anything.  He chose to stay around waiting. I’m sure he was told that they were only signing Juco guys in November because of the possibility of the mandatory roster reduction.  They did say there was a likely hood that after the April 8th (House Settlement) there might be more spots open and then they could sign more freshman.  And I think only one freshman  has actually signed.

This is not daddy ball anymore. If you had half a brain and could check your ego, you could figure out mathematically what was going happen. These coaches have to put the best team out there. Their jobs depend on it. Very few will be taking freshman anymore. No time to develop.

Im tired of the whining by the 2025 class. I know for a fact no one lied to them, they chose to ride out.  Just plain delusional. Then they want to cry about it on social media.  See how that works for them

I agree also. Not good if that is the case.
How can they abandon support for baseball?  If they are an athlete on a roster, they get to revenue share. Didn’t every athlete on a roster get 20,000 this year?

And yeah, you are not going to get the monthly stipend and a revenue share check.  800/a month or 20,000 per year.  Which is a better deal?

And I stand corrected. I didn’t realize that schools will be able to pick and choose what sports get to share revenue.  And what is revenue- net/gross?

Maybe they will offset with the maximum amount of scholarships.  That might come out in the wash, so to speak.

I am not sure but only going off of what I was told. Was told we are forced to pull/reduce current scholarships and the monthly living stipend would no longer exist. We need better NIL funding for baseball.
Heck, maybe a former athlete can toss in $$ like Mahomes did for the Tech softball team.

All scholarships now are full or nothing.  Use to be most were in partial scholarships- I think it 11.7 full, split up to 27.5 players. The difference was made in the stipend and maybe academic scholarships, which is an incentive to keep instate kids

Yeah from what I could gather all the guys hitting the portal are likely doing so because they know they can get a better deal/more exposure in the SEC where they take baseball far more seriously than the B10.

I was thinking along the same lines as you. If we want to truly get back up into the upper eschelon of programs on the diamond, the difference is likely going to be one or two extremely wealthy donors that actually care about funding a truly elite program themselves.

Just won't happen otherwise I'm afraid, which breaks my heart.

I am not sure, so I am kind of asking for clarity here, but was told something about sharing the stadium with the Saltdogs is killing us.??? Something about this is why we can’t produce more revenue than we are.

Maybe they’ll use the baseball program as a sacrifice to the increase number of football scholarships and maintain title IX ratios

Can’t have it all

Erstad or Gordon

Honestly, they’ve done enough. If the athletic department doesn’t commit to the program, then they should ax it and concentrate on fb and volleyball.  Or just fill it with Nebraska kids who qualify for academic scholarships.

but even the SEC will be having these discussions- defining revenue, who gets it, how to balance scholarships with title 9, and so much else

you have zero clue. still partials

Too many returning starters are leaving.  This is not a good sign for this coaching staff.
all asked to leave. You cant b!^@h all season that this team sucks then complain when the coaches do something about it.
