Well I prefer a balanced offense. Establish the run early and run with the lead. Mix in plenty of pass plays. Especially important when playing from behind and late game situations.

But yeah the option does look cool when it is working well with a lead or a close game.

 
The power I and the wishbone also look great when they are well executed. The question should be "Which would win the most games for the players you can recruit?"

EDIT: on second thought the wishbone looks pretty damn ugly even when it's working.

Almost all offenses that are successful are "option" of sorts. The zone read and most spread offenses focus on one player that they leave unblocked to make an option of.

What NU ran most of the Beck era was option and I never heard many people wanting to implement that across the nation. Hell even iso football utilizes some option with WR motion and end arounds off of it at times.

Ultimately there are countless offenses that will work, including Riley's style, it just depends on what the coach likes most and what talent he can get to support it.
