Antonio Bell

Bell will not be the only player to leave. I suspect there will be several others. Fans can blow it off as another disgruntled player. I think it reveals many problems underneath the surface that are being masked by our fortunate victories over the last three weeks.
Yeah, your theory has no substance. There are a hell of a lot more examples of the great majority loving Bo than not. Sure there are disgruntled guys here and there. There is every program. Players that just dont fit the mold. But to use that as an excuse to push the theory that there are "underlying problems" is saying a bit too much. Had we packed it in and gotten blown out against the 3 comeback opponents, I might even agree with you. But a team does not show the courage and guts and heart to have 3 incredible come from behind victories for a coach that most player despise.

Really? Because I see nothing but respect coming from the walkons and the current players for Bo. If there were problems "underneath the surface" it would have came out by now. With Bell, that is the 4th player I know of who has quit on us. Moore, Green and Rome were the only other 3. All 3 quit because they couldn't handle the pressure of having to fight for their position. Rome came back, and realized things aren't going to be given to you, and you earn it. Bell went overboard on the sidelines, and honestly was an embarrassment. Bo probably was going to make him run stairs, and instead of dealing with his actions off the field, he quit. Bo has the right to have a temper, and get in their faces, its his job. You don't see soldiers getting in their drill instructors face, do you? Its Bo's job to enforce discipline for blown assignments or whatever the case might be. Its a players job to listen if they want to play.

Bell quit because he can't take a bit of discipline, the so be it. I know I didn't notice he was gone. Best of luck to him, but we aren't playing worse without him.

It is too bad he was not mature enough to deal with adversity. You mess up, you better be ready to be called on it! And then to think it is okay to say something back says a lot about this kids character. Best of luck to you Bell...sorry it did not work out!

If they're here to be a star, but not work hard, then let them leave. We don't need players who think they're stars. We need players who are willing to work their a$$ off to become stars.

I have it on very good account from a very reliable source that an overwhelming majority of players love Coach Pelini. I have spoken with one that I had the priviledge to encounter when he was being recruited by NU as part of the 2010 class. Late bloomer in HS, etc. He was on an unofficial visit for the KState game. He FB messaged me the day he committed. I asked him what Coach Pelini is like and he said "He is the man." In those words. That opinion has not changed and nor do I see it. This individual is now our leading WR. To give you another hint, he wears a blue shirt underneath his jersey.

Also...Pelini honored his scholarship, so Bell is still on scholarship so he can finish out the school year. Not playing with the team for violating team rules.

Classy move by Bo. I dig it.
I have said this a million times as well:

If Bo Pelini gives you a scholarship and you do everything right. You go to class, you work hard, and you are a team player; and football just doesn't happens to work out for you like you and the staff hoped it would, Coach Pelini will never cut your scholarship. I personally would not have it any other way. Ask Saban and Miles and some other SEC schools if that is their philosophy. Ask Kiffin.

That's when you know when Education is most important to a coach.

Every team has a few disgruntled players. I had a kid threaten to quit after a huge team victory. Not enough individual recognition. This player matured pretty quickly and became a big contributor to a state championship team.

Compare Bell's attitude with Jammal Turner's attitude in the article in owh today. Turner realized he wasn't competing at the level needed and stepped it up.

The big underlying issue is a non-issue, just the reality of team sports.

The difference I will point out is that Jamal is a Soph. while this is Antonio's last year. He had only played in 4 games and only had 3 tackles. I am sure he was hoping to play better and contribute more.

I appreciate all the hard work he has put into the program in the last 4 years. I'm sorry it didn't work out for him as a Husker. I wish him the best.

Well honestly, we have no idea what the underlying issue is or whether it is systemic and big or not. We have no idea what happened with Antonio Bell and how his relationship with Bo, the staff or the team played out over time. We have no idea if whatever it is that caused the departure is a common issue with other players or not. We only know that Antonio... who if you remember, worked really hard to get on to the team and was willing to make a position switch... well for whatever reason ... he is gone. Whose fault... or if there is fault to apportion (or if it is just a situation) or no? Who knows. It is good that he gets to keep his scholarship. I hope he gets his degree and looks back at NU with favor.

Those who are disparaging his name are doing so illicitly... we have no information that would suggest that he was somehow deserving of being impugned for his character or whatever --- he did lose his cool on the sideline ... but that is all we have --- heat of the moment and I'd guess a moment he wished he had back... but lets not grill this kid. Thank him for his contributions and move on, wishing him well.

who said he quit? No one thought that maybe he was removed from the team for blowing up at Bo?

All this talk about attention whores, quiters, etc.... and no one even knows what really happened.
