carl pelini

Hmmm, it appears that it hasn't been an "official" raise just yet. At first I thought it was speculation, then the rumored raise was given. Apparently, that is not the case.

I just hope this whole thing doesn't end up leaving Bo with a bad taste in his mouth with Osborne, assuming all of this is true. I want both Pelini's to be here for a long, long, long, time and for them to retire here with multiple national titles. Of course, that's easier to say with Bo since he's the head coach and not a coordinator. But I love this staff and I'd hate to see anything bad happen from this that sets us back yet again now, or in the future.

I had to Google other boards to read the rumors, but that's all it is, just a rumor. If true, let it be settled in house swiftly and keep everyone in tact, and just be a bad series of events that doesn't effect the future of anyone's job or the success of football at Nebraska.

Like I said, the sooner this dies, the sooner the new spins keep coming out, the better off we will all be.

 
I know, I just wanted to see what you all had heard. The only thing, like I said, I'd ever heard was on the internet a couple months ago, so I never paid attention to it. But when you hear it from your father one morning who never gets on message boards, it makes you wonder. Besides, he said he had heard from a reliable source that the husband of the women Carl had an affair with was a banker in Grand Island, packed up his stuff, and booked it for Arizona. Keep in mind that Nebraska is like one small town sometimes - everyone knows everyone somehow. So I do think that the affair part is true, although I hope not. I'm just worried what it means for Bo and the coaching situation if so.

 
I truly wouldn't worry about how it will effect Bo. He is here for a while. It "may" be a sore subject with him and TO, but TO will only be around for a few more years anyway. I don't mean any disrespect here, because I idolize TO (named my son after him and model my coaching career), but just saying he will retire sooner than later (IMO). Plus, TO has been around a lot of different "characters" on his staff and under Devaney....so he has been through this and worse. Bo will be fine and I don't see Carl heading anywhere either. Affairs, although I dont agree with, happen everywhere, everyday, and with a lot of people, even those with big time $$$$$.

 
Good post and I agree with everything - the only concern is, while you're right that TO won't be here for that much longer, if he pushes to get rid of Carl while he is here that might not matter. The damage might be done. Considering this has been around for two months or so I'm thinking it won't get anywhere thankfully. It's too bad things like this have to happen, and I feel bad for the husband if this is true. Hopefully all will end well for everyone.

The fact that the athletic dept, Carl, nor Bo have come out publicly against this tells me they are ignoring it and working on recruiting, because they certainly seem like the type of guys that do not partake in some stupid a$$ rumor to have to come out publicly to denounce it.

Could you imagine Bo, Carl, and Dr. Osborne gathered for a beer, Carl says "see that sh#t, people got me bangin former Miss Nebraska", Bo says "no sh#t, hell, they got me hittin on Suh's sister", Osborne says "I got you both beat, I really did almost leave for Colorado"

The things to keep in mind with regards to this situation. Solich's alleged affair was never addressed by the athletic department. Bohl's alleged affair was never addressed by the athletic department. Just because it hasn't been addressed publicly by the athletic department doesn't mean anything.

 
Agreed !!!! It is really too bad that this is even a topic. I do believe that people in the position that Carl is in need to be a little more careful than some. Considering he is in the public spotlight and a mentor to students, I think he screwed up big time (if this is true). But, although a major screw up.....not a reason to get fired.

Once again, I am wrong a lot :) so don't be suprised to see Carl gone after signing day :sarcasm :facepalm:

Very good, i was going to address that exact fact in my post. My opinion on that is that when those two were let go, they really were not performing their job to expectations, so "losing" on Solich's part and "bad defense" on Bohl's were more of the excuse to fire rather than the reason, similar to Mangino's situation. Their losing and poor defense allowed the Athletic Dept. to keep the bad offfield incidences unmentioned to save bad publicity. IMO. They dont have that advantage now, cuz no one in the country is doing a better job than Bo and Carl. So if all-a sudden Carl is fires someday in the near future, there is going to have to be some sort of published reason. JMO.

I agree with you on Bohl, but with Solich it doesn't hold much water. If they were going to fire him for the reasons stated, it should have been done after the 2002 season not after he made coaching changes; won 10 games; and finished the season in the top 25. There's a reason we ended up with our 4th or 5th or 6th choice as head coach in Clownahan.

 
What makes it hard for me to beileve this rumor is that it keeps changing. First it was a boosters wife, then it was a boosters daughter, and now it is a boosters son's wife?

Pretending it's not there won't make it go away, and if it's true we're going to have big problems. Hopefully it's nothing, but this is Rumorville after all, and I'm pretty sure that means rumors are free for debate. I'm afraid of what might come out after signing day.

Right. "Other sources," like other message boards, or chain emails, or someone who heard it from someone else. Name one credible source where this rumor starts. When you can't, maybe it's time to reevaluate the legitimacy of this rumor.

And I thought people were worried about what was going to happen after the bowl game when this started. Now it's Signing Day? If nothing happens by then, do we have to wait until the Spring Game?

Define a credible source. Do you really expect something like this to come from Bo or Carl himself? What do you want me to say - Bo texted me today and told me? You want the pictures my private investigator took of them? I heard about it from my dad, like I said, who has plenty of ties to the university and athletic program. You don't know Nebraska culture very well if you think something like this doesn't get around. Everyone knows everyone in this state. I haven't participated in this rumor once before today, so don't talk to me about who said what a month ago. It's rumorville, if you don't like rumors don't visit the section and don't visit the page. Nothing may come it, you're right, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Solich was messing around with cheerleaders too - NU didn't reveal that for all to see. This is a message board for discussions - this one about rumors. I'm not passing out flyers at the Omaha World Herald. It's something I heard separately from here, where a lot of other people had heard it also. If I want to discuss it I will.

I sort of agree with this...story keeps changing and now is in a chain email? When I get chain emails and look them up on snopes.com they are always false. So just sayin'...chain email info. is usually wrong IMO.

TO has said that the assistants contracts end Jan. 31, 2010 and they would be finalized before end of this month...uh, that is in a few days...I expect Carl to be renewed.

 
Most likely will be. I highly, highly doubt he'd get fired, but I find it hard to believe the amount of information on his affair for that part not to be true. What will come of it is a different story.
