Competiveness and Statistics?

This guy is a huge issue. As far a recruting goes I would not want to come play in this system, perhaps some of these new QB's can change this but Gilmore still needs to develop guys who can compete for the ball and catch it.

Does anyone else think that Gilmore's emphasis on blocking over catching is hurting the production of our WRs (not to mention recruiting, what kind of a star WR wants to come block the majority of the time)? There could be an incredible set of hands on the bench that never sees the field because they don't block well enough to suit Gilmore's liking.

I understand that WRs blocking on the outside is essential, and has been the catalyst for many of our big highlight runs this season, but at the end of the day you need WRs that can catch the ball. If they can't catch, we might as well line up with offensive lineman at the wideout position.

They'd better figure something out, because the reoccuring nightmare of all the drops during the UT game is seriously f'ing up my sleep schedule...

YES!
Possibly, maybe blocking it so physically tough on these guys that it beats them up, mentally and physically, too.

However, I don't recall our WRs in the 90's dropping too many balls. They were lightly recruited and blocked most of the time, but if they got hit in the hands, they caught them. And their QBs weren't exactly Joe Montana. Maybe because we had a good WR coach back then. Maybe we can find another coach like him somewhere??

There definitely is an issue with the coaching at the WR position. With all of the WR's that have come through here you would think atleast one of them would have been exceptional, yet we havent had a guy that really makes you say wow. Now at the TE position it seems that every guy we get becomes a stud. Now you could say that we just recruit great TE talent or you could reasonably assume that coaching has something to do with it. Why are we having to move TE's to WR? Because the WR coach cant seem to develope the talent he has, thats why.
