Conference Realignment Rumors

Looks like UTEP is joining the MWC.

UTEP 'honored' to join retooled Mountain West Conference - ESPN

Gonzaga is joining the Pac-12 for all sports that they have (no football).  This will really hurt the WCC.

Basketball powerhouse Gonzaga to join Pac-12 for 2026 season - ESPN

Both conferences need to add at least one "full-time" member because Gonzaga doesn't have football (Pac-12) and Hawaii is a football only member (MWC).

I guess I will never understand why they don't just merge - probably because one of the conference commissioners will lose their job if there is a merger.

With how aggressive the MWC is being, the Pac-12 needs to consider looking at FCS powerhouses.

NDSU, SDSU, Montana State and Montana.

Potentially adding some teams like Villanova as basketball only, and maybe Creighton.

I think they overplayed their cards and lost the opportunity to add anyone from a solid American conference who has arguably been the best group conference.
