Dana Holgorsen Hired as Offensive Coordinator

I think it is funny how everyone is assuming that Holgorsen is the replacement for Satt. If he is, then doesn't that mean that both Satt and Glenn Thomas are failing their evaluations? There has been a lack of transparency on who is calling the plays, between the offensive coordinator and the co-offensive coordinator. Heck for all we know they are taking turns!

Thomas was supposed to be QB Coach and we haven't exactly seen refinement & growth in Dylan's game. Also, the lack of perimeter blocking in the WR room would seem to be the responsibility of Garrett McGuire (wouldn't it)? I tend to think that Holgorsen was hired to do just what his title says: Analyze/Consult on the entire offense (to give Rhule someone to give Rhule a reality check).

The Nebraska sports media doesn't exactly ask the hard questions, but if they did it would be... does an offensive analyst/consultant answer to the Offensive Coordinator or the Head Coach?

He's got a bye week, so I'm guessing that he is going to be self-scouting the offense - looking at the film of every game this season (and probably LAST season, as well).

From the CBS story on the Holgorsen:

Holgorsen had served in a similar role earlier this season for TCU; there are no rules that prevent a consultant from working with multiple teams in the same season.

Frankly, I think Holgorsen sounds like too much of a loose cannon to be a permanent hire by Rhule. I would think with his propensity for gambling, he would turn out to be Nebraska's version of Pete Rose. In short, I see him as a valuable mind to pay for his opinions - but he just doesn't seem to fit the bill of a Nebraska fixture on the coaching staff.

Change my mind.

If he was the answer.....why is he available?
It’s a fair question, I think we’ve found something similar with Butler where his resume screamed upgrade but it was weird he was available so late in the cycle. And he’s done a solid job but I’m not sure it was an upgrade like I had hoped.

In this case though, this is just an analyst/helper role to get some fresh eyes on our mistakes and maybe help get Raiola seeing the offense again. While it does sound like he will get an expanded role while here, If it doesn’t end up being a fit, we aren’t exactly tied to Dana.

I think we see Thomas as CO-OC/QB and Holgerson as CO-OC/WR.

Dana has some dogs over the years at wide receiver. He coached Welker and Crabtree at Tech.

He's also had Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Tank Dell while a HC.
A little better resume than Doogie

Maybe his family is Run The Damn Ball people and said, we out!
His daughter is a Senior at Hammond High School in Columbia, SC. Her mom is renting a house in Elgin, SC. My guess is that they may have spent some of the summer here, but they obviously did not want to disrupt Harper's Senior Year (similar to Matt Rhule's choice for his son LAST year).

Yeah, what I heard was that his daughter was having trouble making friends in NE, so her & mom went back to SC for her senior year.
