DE Harrison Phillips [Stanford - Signed LOI]

We're not going to take either unless they prove they are good enough to better our team. We can't settle for an average or a little above average player. We need ace's... if we have a shot at ace's out of state then we hold off on the in-state kids until we see ace potential or until the out of state ace's fall through. Even if Harrison is good... we won't take him if we are in on someone who is great.
In the last two classes they've been pretty judicious with the local offers. I think they'll continue that with this class. Ya it's quite possible neither in-state DE gets taken, especially if they figure on getting Newell and using him at DE. but if we do get Newell I see him at DT. My guess is one out of Stultenberg and Phillips gets an offer after camp. I'd be surprised if both get an offer.
If they only took one I believe it would be Stultenberg. He has a much better frame to add weight to. Not saying Phillips is a slouch or anything but I think Stultenberg could potentially be a stud later in his career.

Now they're saying Stoltenberg will get looked at for both OL and DE at camp, which could help his odds of an offer. In terms of OL recruiting we seem to be going more in this direction, guys that don't look like college linemen now but have the athleticism and frame where they can really be something once we put the right kind of size on.

great offer... hope he can find a way to get that Nebraska offer.. but if not Stanford is a great school!!! he might be over us anyways!!!

My impression is that the staff want him, but that they're trying to figure out how they can add him. He seemingly got beat out at the position he's used to, so we're trying to see how we can fit him into the puzzle. He might've had the bad luck to just graduate at the wrong year.

Picked up some hardware at the Under Armour All-Nebraska combine

I wonder if Phillips would ever consider a greyshirt. I personally think we need to make room for him. Lives and Breathes Red, Nebraska kid. As good of a motor as you are going to see. Versatile lineman. He needs to be a Husker, but if they no way, no how can make room for him this year then you have to believe they would extend a greyshirt offer. Just don't know if Phillips would consider it with an offer like Stanford out there.

I had been hoping for a greyshirt offer to play center, think he'd be good there given some time to put size on, but I doubt Phillips would go for that now.

Everyone, but Nebraska, seems to be evaluating Phillips at strong-side DE (that is also the offer from Stanford). This is Nebraska's tell. I think the talent is there for Phillips, but they picked up Mixon and Natter last year for DE, and are looking at Newell for this year. Heck, even Stoltenberg puts most of his time on the field in Gretna at this position, though Nebraska was also working him out on the offensive line. I would like Phillips, but we will have to see how it turns out with Newell, which hopefully we pick up.

We are recruiting Newell at DT. We did well at DE last year so that's most of his problem. Other seems to be he doesn't have a set position. I would like to see him offered at center, but we've recruited oline pretty well last year as well, and were off to a good start so far this year, so he's hurt by not having a set position. Congrats to him on the offer that's a heck of an offer for the kid.

If he doesn't end up coming to Nebraska, I would love to see him at Stanford. Have a ton of respect for David Shaw and their program. Not to mention the education he will get. Congrats to Harrison.

I personally believe you can never have enough good OL or DL no matter what the position they play so I think if the coaches believe he is good enough to play somewhere in those 9 spots, offer him and get it over with.
