Defensive Play Discussion

Watching our defensive line & linebackers get leverage and be able to push them back is so encouraging.  If I/we had to continue to watch us play pattycake with their offensive line for another year, I was going to loose my s#!t.  And yes, I do understand that there are plays where the assignment is to hold position, but even that looks better this year.  Additionally, and I cant say this enough, they just physically look better!  I would say the training/nutrition plan is starting to pay off.

Incredible play by Miller.  All the way from the back side.  He closed probably 12-13 yards from the time he recognized the play until the RB actually caught the ball.

not bad by Honas either.  He recognized it pretty quick.  Just didn't make the play.  A year or two ago whoever would be there probably continues up field taking themselves out of the play.

Yep.  And was our highest-graded defensive player per Pro Football Focus.  Only Zavier Betts graded higher overall (on 18 plays).

Pretty impressive!  What are our thoughts on where he would go in the draft?  Better yet, he really needs one more year at Nebraska to hone his skill, of course he doesn't.  :)

Hard to speculate IMO until he goes through the combine style testing.  With him being a tweener, you'd need to project a bit for the next level.  Could he retain his athleticism at the next level if he had to bulk into a OLB?  I'm just not sure.  JoJo's been putting out some good tape thus far so he's definitely going to get a look or two at the next level.

What a difference a year makes... last season that is a minimum 20 yard gain.

I've been very pleased with Miller's development and the rest of the linebackers over the past year. That position group has been the most impressive to me given how poorly they performed last season. I really hope the defensive staff sticks together as they appear to be functioning in unison together now.

Now we just need the offense to start playing complementary to the defense's aggressive nature and control the game better.

Nadab Joseph has finally been cleared by the NCAA.  Apparently there was a recruiting issue from when he was in high school that was forgotten when he went JUCO but now had to be ironed out.  Finally got it straightened out this week.

From the sounds of it he is as advertised athletically but is kind of behind now getting worked into the system.  So don't look for him right away but hopefully he can catch up quickly.
