After Dewiz received his ninth board warning last November, I said the following in another Leadership Forum thread (it was in relation to Dewiz and LOMS at the time):
IMO, the next [warning] for either of them should be long term, particularly if it's politically themed. These two were the catalyst for implementing the status update guidelines this summer. Forgive my language, but it's high time they cut the s#!t.
In Dewiz' defense, teachercd started the update and not Dewiz. Also, what Dewiz said is similar to what is said about 'the right' by a lot of our members in P&R (they just have the moxy to keep it in P&R).
Not playing into Dewiz' favor is he, of all people, should know better than to make comments like that in the status updates. And his nine warnings, regardless of how spaced out they are, are representative of a generally poor behaved person. Thanks_Tom also did warn people not to say anything political.
Finally, there's no reasoning with him as evidenced by
his long conversations with Mav late last year, so I concur that a private PM is going to be useless.
Ultimately, this is what Dewiz does - he forces the leadership team to have regular conversations about whether or not something he did/said is worth banning. There have been at least 5-6 separate conversations about it in the last year alone. I would not bat a single eye about his removal. And, although I don't believe this particular situation is egregious by itself to warrant removal, it's a microcosm of his decision making. Either we accept that we're going to have to have these conversations about him on a regular basis or we remove him.
