Frost is returning for 2022

I think it's far-fetched to put Frost in the discussion of our best chances of success, based on past results.  I think Trev kind of agrees otherwise he wouldn't be counting on a new offensive coaching staff to turn things around, while taking away a lot of Frost's influence on the coaching part of it and making him more of a CEO-type.  

Also I see a lot of people (not necessarily you) defining success for Frost as something like 6-6 and a bowl appearance.   If 6 losses is acceptable then winning is kind of an afterthought. 

But, we are where we are.  And hopefully that new offensive staff can turn things around.

That's fine, I just disagree, especially since we can fire Frost next year at a greatly reduced buyout. Frost could succeed, but if not, that leaves a lot more money for the next staff than we could offer now. That combination gives us a better chance for success than replacing the HC now IMO.

I think you're drawing some unwarranted conclusions about what Trev thinks. We're not even sure whether the staff changes are coming from Trev and not Frost, even though I agree it's likely Trev could be pushing Frost in that direction.

I think people are more thinking that 6-6 is a step in the right direction, not that it's acceptable long term. If we end up firing Frost, then 6-6 by the next staff would also be a step in the right direction.

Agreed. I think the OL will be the most difficult thing to fix, but if a coach gets the OL to perform well, I think we could be a much improved team.

Is he supposed to just come out and say they suck? Boy, that will do wonders for the staff and players. One can say they are doing good publicly while looking to improve privately. But then again acknowledging that means one can't just bash frost.

Just call it what it is. Our special teams suck and everyone knows it. Don’t say fake s#!t like our special teams are pretty good other than specialists. I don’t see Saban or other good coaches sugar coating it because he might hurt a grown mans feelings. 
 

sometimes to be better you have to acknowledge deficiencies and hold people accountable. We will not improve if we are afraid to hurt feelings about someone not doing good enough. He doesn’t have to slam Dawson but he can say yes we need to improve that phase of the game and a full time assistant could dedicate the needed time.

I sure would like to know what metrics that Frost and Alberts mutually agreed to for next season. It sounds like if Frost meets them his salary goes back up to $5M a year in 2023 AND he gets one year added to his contract til 2027. I am not a fan of this approach IF the bar is set too low for next season. We all know the schedule is favorable so getting to 8 or 9 wins should be the minimum for Frost to get one year added to his contract.

It's not about the record.  If it was he'd be fired already.  it's the "eye test" that things are improving.  Some perception that no one can articulate.  Frost can go 5-7 next year and be back.. And that's an issue.......We suck.  There is no way around it.  If Frost fails to meet the "fans mandates of X number of wins" he will be back.  The O staff needs time to gel.  Or the O staff needs time to implement their scheme, system, culture......Or we lost JoJo, CTB, Williams, Stille....When the AD says its about loyalty ie he is a Husker, born and raised, played here, brother etc........Dude isn't going anywhere until we are such a laughing stock not one person, fan, admn or talking head would say he needs more time....BUT, maybe NU pulls out the deep pockets and goes hog wild on putting together a staff that is top notch.  Not the clowns Frost had......And actually starts to play smart football. Decides ST is a priority and figures out how to actually have a red zone offense....111th is hard to win anything....

Your right cause I can hear all those excuses already. CTB gone, Jojo gone, new O staff. Need more time. If I sold time shares I would start with Nebraska fans 

 
As another week of college football passes and I got to see other programs in similar disarray as Nebraska, I felt even more comfortable in Alberts decision to retain Frost for at least one more year. I already had the mentality of whatever happens happens, I could see reason to terminate him and move on, but I could also see reason in keeping him. I set aside my emotions and let Alberts make whatever decision he was going to make and I'd be fine with it either way. 

But after this past weekend, I think it was a very smart move to keep Frost and to let everyone out there know Frost is coming back next year. There are a ton of other programs, some blue bloods, that are just messes right now, add in the already handful of job openings and the hiring process would likely be very competitive this year. But look at places like Florida and Texas. The Gators game vs Sanford reminded me a lot of our game vs Ball State under Callahan. Florida knows Mullen isn't going to work out and now they have to decide whether or not to get rid of him or keep him. Texas seems to be in a bigger mess right now. They just fired their coach and now their new coach looks to be even worse. Making that entire decision to fire Herman and hire Sarkisian look terrible and now there is even talks about whether or not Texas is going to fire Sarkisian after this season. 

Just saying, after this past weekend that was wild in college football both on and off the field I can certainly take comfort in knowing we have at least one more year of stability at the top of the program.
