Gameday Contest

AR Husker Fan

Team HuskerBoard
Are we going to have the Gameday Contest this year? If so, who is up to handle it? Dave, are you up for it? If not, is there someone who wants to take it over?

Reason I ask is that I thought I'd post a temporary sticky on the main page informing our new members about the gameday thread (and why we don't want multiple posts througout the game), reminding them of Huskerboard Chat, and - if we want to continue it - the Gameday Contest.

I would but there may be some times when I wouldn't be able to lock the thread before kick off. (ie Work)
Not to worry. Usually, I start the thread, and I can set it to lock automatically. Also, when someone else starts it, all they need to do is post here and let everyone know that they won't be able to lock it - someone else will get it.

Assuming Dave doesn't want to do it, we would need someone to tally up the scores and the passing and rushing yardage to figure out who wins. Before you commit to it, you probably should email or PM Dave to get an idea whether he wants to do it, and if not, what kind of work it entails. I know that it's not something that's quick and easy, but that's about it. I think Dave created an Excel spreadsheet to help.

We tried to come up with some way to create a form that would dump all of the information to a database, but the problem is that we don't have any PHP programmers amongst the Mods or Admins.

Thanks for filling me in.

This probably means that we would never switch to phpbb, right?

Not necessarily. That'd be Chad's call, and I'm sure he'd base it on cost, features, etc.

AR's right

I've come up with a spreadsheet that helps tally the entries and figure out who one. The pain in the a$$ part is entering all the entries

It would be sweet if we could automate it, but like AR said we don't have anyone with php experience. Perhaps we can poll the members? There's gotta be someone out there.

I am not going to be able to handle it this year, guys. Can someone else pick it up?

You can find the excel sheet here http://www.huskerboard.com/mods/DaveH/Score.xls

I should be able to take care of it. Also, nice work on putting together the spreadsheet. Looks like someone has used excel before!

Thanks E. And glad to see you're back. I've obviously been out of the loop, but what ru up to these days besides getting hook-em tats? Gonna make it to any games this yr?

Eric,

You had asked me what is a fair amount. I think your idea of raising the pot but making ppl get it spot on is a good idea. but i also think more ppl might be inclined to participate when there are 3 winners b/c they feel they have a shot.

What do the rest of you think? Should we just keep the system the same for now?

I won't make any home games because of work. I am going to the Texas Tech game and possibly the OU game though. It's really weird to live in a city that has other primary colors than red. I've been mostly golfing and just tying to network as much as I can. In my business, it IS who you know that counts. I've been promoted once in the last six months and look to become Head Pro within a year. I've been working hard and things have been going well. I just hope things stay that way.

I suggest we leave it the same. I have already heard from other board members that they would participate even without prizes. I don't think we would gain any participation by changing the distribution or the amount.

So guys, what do you want?

Winner gets $25 to any store we have. Husker gear, huskervideos, etc. Everyone, including moderators can play and win.

The winner of the contest must get the score dead on. Not closest wins. If two people pick identical scores and that comes out we must have tiebreakers. That will just be closest. If no one picks the correct score, that $25 will roll over to the next week and now the amount is $50......once someone picks the correct score, the amount returns back to $25.

Or as chad says have three winner: not sure how to break that down, but you get the point.
