How far Left, could a Leftist Left, if a Leftist could Left, Left.

Remember, one of the purposes of blackface was to allow theater and vaudeville and movies to portray black characters without having to employ an actual black.

Another way to look at it is to imagine a New York City socialite deciding to play a Nebraskan. How do you think they'd pull that off and what are the chances it wouldn't feel insulting?

Tropic Thunder was still funny. And I almost forgot Ben Stiller played "Simple Jack" in the same movie.

Shoot, it is like when the Husker have a home game and the camera always gets a shot of the big fat dude in overalls with a corn hat.

Offensive?  no

Stupid?  Sort of...

Like was said in the posts above, acting in a movie in blackface needs to be looked at in context.  Why isn't it the same for me dressing up on Halloween?

I think you nailed it here. There is no context to passersby or glancers that would see you.

It's "wrong" because it's easiest and perhaps even necessary for culture to have a vague low resolution picture, and simply for the sake of efficiency and protection say blackface = bad. It's not actually that simple, but it is to a lot of people exactly that simple, so if you really really want to do it, it's not "wrong" par se, but you've gotta deal with the consequences and social cost to your reputation.
