knapplc

I'm sure he thinks he's being down-low funny but I would imagine if someone posted a similar status update from the opposite side of the political spectrum he'd be the first to report it.

Yeah, I think that's a fairly cheeky move on his part.

So, because I saw the report about his status before I saw your post, I locked the status update. knapp just sent me PM saying it had 'nothing to do with P&R' and was wondering why it was locked. Our P&R guidelines point out 'deference will not be given to ambiguity' so I'm not going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Oh look.  Yeah, I'm shocked.  Others had political avatars for some time but as soon as Dewiz changed his avatar knapp complains.

We had this discussion once in relation to a @macroboy avatar of Trump kissing Putin.

@Dewiz has updated his profile photo to a photo of Trump and a couple of members have PM'd me asking if we can "keep P&R in P&R" similar to how we have decided this should be the case with political status updates. One of them was @knapplc.

Thoughts on this? Dewiz has a checkered past with P&R of course, and has (from time to time) done subtle things like this to try and flex his muscles. I don't really have that big of a problem with someone using a political figure as an avatar in general, but I also see the point about keeping P&R in P&R.

But, of course, it's fine for him to do something like that.  It has nothing to do with politics.

Every response had some political reference in them. If he wasn't implying anything political, he didn't do a very good job devoiding it.

He's trying to now argue that two other status updates about Greenland went unnoticed and unchallenged this weekend. He's not wrong, but I also pointed out to him that his update was a not-so-subtle jab at Trump, and that's how it was interpreted by more than one person.

I also told him I don't believe for one second that he didn't see this correlation coming given his general interest and savviness with politics.

It's kind of a frustrating behavior - isn't it?

That Trump and "very right" Republicans are so bad that we should allow them to be differentially treated is, in my opinion, wrong and part of why we are where we are in the first place.

I'd post the back and forth knapp and I had in here but it's kind of lengthy, but you'd be even more frustrated if you'd read it.

After locking his status, he PM'd me saying 'it had nothing to do with P&R.' When I told him I didn't believe that at all and it was pretty clear he was taking a shot at Trump, he never once contradicted that in the following 8-10 messages we shared. Instead, he only wanted to focus on the fact that two other people had recently posted Greenland related statuses and there's weren't locked. He then had the audacity to say that we were biased in our enforcement of P&R guidelines, that the whole situation was 'pretty crummy' and that I wasn't 'listening' to what he had to say.

I even called him out for how he was always quick to jump on the anti-Dewiz bandwagon in recent years, calling out Dewiz every time he posted a not-so-subtle P&R related status update. To which, of course, knapplc ignored.

Honestly, back and forths like this really piss me off and just goes to prove a lot of our P&R fans here don't really give a damn about P&R unless it fits their narrative. I wasn't quick to see this when I first became a mod but it's become painfully obvious. Now, I feel like I have to take most of what people like knapplc say in relation to P&R with a grain of salt. They can't be trusted.

Everything has to be taken with a grain of salt, unfortunately, because we're in an era where everyone can live in their own echo chamber. They ascribe to people who reinforce their world view without any perspective-taking, even though the most productive solutions have always come when all sides are able to freely contribute their thoughts and ideas and not be too proud to realize that they won't get everything they want.

I hardly think we've been biased in our enforcement.

Yeah, the sad part is a lot of people - like knapp - that are always accusing other of not looking at the whole picture and living in an echo chamber are the ones who are there themselves and either don't know it or refuse to even consider the possibility.

This seems like a problem to me:

This comment was in response to a thread @HuskerForTrump2020 started and is related to knapplc's belief that they're a previously banned member.

Yes, the thread is dumb IMO. And I can't find any clear evidence to this point that HFT2020 is a previously banned member, but that I think that's beside the point. Using a thread in the main football forum to publicly call for another person's banning, rally support for said banning, and call a poster a 'stooge' multiple times feels like a clear violation of board guidelines.

Edit - One more thought. We've had to deal with quite a few situations in recent years that knapplc's been directly involved with. The evidence is in this thread. He's mostly emerged unscathed from it all. I don't think this is worth a ban or anything that severe, but I can see reason to issue a warning for this. A clear message to cut this kind of bullying crap out.

Yeah, I think a warning might not hurt.  I admit thinking this was a likely sock as well but I can't find any evidence of that.  So that's a pretty poor way to treat someone without something decent to go on.

Is someone else able to issue this? I'm about to hop on a plane and will likely be off the board the next several days, and so this should probably be issued sooner than later if we're all in agreement.
