Landlord

It's a very Landlord-type thing to do/say. But, he's not alone. There are a lot of people who want this board to go back to the way it was, but they don't seem willing or able to accept that pretty much everyone was freeloading off of someone else's wallet at the time.

Eh, there's a difference between what most people are saying/doing and what he did.  I can understand people being frustrated and irritated.  Especially the ones that were having issues on mobile.  And it's not that people can't voice their frustration.  @BigRedMax knew there would be that going into the deal.

But not everyone has to be a jerk like Landlord.  To just act like there wasn't anything wrong and all this is being done for no reason and openly mock people is just plain being a jacka$$.  He knows full well that the bills weren't getting paid before but he just goes on his tirade as if that's not even a consideration.

People don't like change, but over time we adapt. Honestly the ads aren't as noticeable anymore and I've gotten used to the fewer posts per page.

Yeah, I totally agree.  The vast majority of people will be fine.  It was nice to not have to have them but it's understandable why it is how it is now and it really doesn't change much.

Why am I not shocked that Landlord would do something like this?

I have sent him the following PM and deleted his post in the Indiana game tickets thread.

------------------

You have a pattern of violating this board rule on pretty much a daily basis.

Any defamatory posts made against HuskerBoard, its representatives, or any other member may result in an immediate ban or temporary account disablement.

I will delete all posts of this nature and if it continues I will enforce the above rule.

Has been banned for being a constant jerk about the current state of the board including his latest (final?) post below, originally in the Complaining About Ads thread now in Hidden Posts.

I have banned Landlord after he called me an idiot in the ads thread which I deleted.

knapplc is lobbying to get him back and I told him I would consider it in a month or so.

Would like to get some mod opinion on whether or not he should be let back after a lengthy vacation of at least a month.

IMO Landlord's behavior targeted at you and the board in recent months has been over the top and unacceptable. His most recent post was absolutely worth some type of warning and a long term suspension.

To be transparent, I know Landlord fairly well on a personal level so I may need to recuse myself a bit. I think he has a tendency to be impetuous and boorish, but I also think his status as a long time member and contributor often help generate more interest in the board from other users.

Without knowing the totality of his behavior and the PM's you two have exchanged Max, I would be in favor of a long term suspension and his return, but it should come with a clear call-to-action that stepping his toe out of line again will be a permaban.

As you say, I don't think any other of us are privy to what has gone on in PMs.  He has been a pretty big jerk on the board and I know there have been PMs exchanged but I don't know how those conversations went.

IMO, he had plenty of chances to change how he was acting and didn't.  He routinely injects himself into conversations specifically so he can tell someone else how wrong they are, and not in a conversational tone.  He was already talking about leaving and starting anther board before the last shot he fired.  I don't think anything would change if he came back.

knapp likes to try to run everything, how he wants it run.  I've grown tired of his antics as well so I don't lend them much credence.

I don't really care on way or the other.  But I don't know if banning people and then letting them come back is really a healthy way to operate.

Agree with Mav in regards to knapplc's lobbying; immediately after Landlord's banning, knapp sent me a two word PM: "Landlord. Explain." It rubbed me the wrong way.

I think it's been rare that we've allowed someone to come back after a full-fledged banning though it has happened. I think it should just be dependent on the individual circumstances. With Landlord, Mav is right about his general board behavior and history. He has also been involved in conversations with other board members (on this board) about starting up a new board/community. Landlord hasn't really built up a lot of goodwill IMO.

Which is kind of sad if you ask me.  For whatever reason, it seems to me that both he and knapp (to a lesser extent) have kind of "evoloved" over the years from being pretty cool to have a discussion with to insisting they are the smartest person in every conversation and they can't wait to tell you how wrong you are and how stupid you are for thinking that.

Not sure why that is.  But that's how it seems to me.

I'm gonna chime in this and say that Landlord is definitely a brash individual, and he definitely pushes the boundaries, so I'm not crying about it.

BUT... I will say he's not entirely wrong about the ad situation. I've tried to do browsing and moderating on mobile, and it's rough at best. I know we had talked about a "subscription model" in the past, and I think we need to revisit it.
