Maurice Washington Faces Charges

Could be all of them.  Could be none of them.  But if that is the hill you want to die on, then maybe we can dispense with notion Frost is only recruiting players of high character.

Am I remembering this wrong or aren't you the "If Frost really wants to get us back to the top he's going to have to compromise some of his morals" or something like that?

When does he plan on returning to California to face the charges? Are Nebraska lawyers allowed to represent people in other states?  Does he actually have to be in court, or is he just going for questioning?

I think he was just saying it's going to be somewhat awkward for the people who are chastising Washington now if/when he doesn't get kicked off the team.  Are they going to cheer for him if he doesn't get kicked off the team and continues to do well?  Or are they going to continue to hold the opinion he's not a good person and that he shouldn't be playing?  I think most will probably go with the former, hence walking back their comments.

A lot this. Say you're of the opinion Washington has proven himself unable to represent the team. But there he is, wearing the uniform, representing the team. Something's gotta give there, right?

My opinion: [remember, just an opinion.  Don't know her, Mo or the gentlemen in said video nor did I see said video]

She was interested in and or was with one of the guys in said video.  He coaxed her into 3way.  Once it was happening, filming happened and she didn't say no to it because let's face it we are all different people in the moment.  Video gets around, she THEN regrets it.  Naturally, gets in trouble for it.  To cope with the disappointment from her parents and save face, decides she will say it was forced sexual assault.

As far as Washington goes.  Regardless of his relationship with her, he acquired the video.  Stupidly after saving it, he sent it to her as an FU of sorts.  Now he's a college athlete and an easy target and will pay the price.  From the sounds of it, nobody is innocent here.  But laws are laws and most teenagers ignore them and or don't know/understand them or the repercussions of them.

Personally, I'm hoping we can all have more details and more truth come out before throwing him or her under the bus any further.

So how did Washington get the video? I would be curious to know who sent it to him? It would be ironic if she sent it to him a few years ago to take a dig at him.

His Nebraska attorney could represent him in California if he is admitted to the California Bar or he could file a motion to appear pro hac vice.  Would probably be smart to hire another attorney in California that is familiar with California criminal law.

I assume because the school administration thought she was involved in the taping and distribution despite her word that she wasn’t.

That simply does not pass the smell test. If she was expelled under those circumstances, it would be an outrageous injustice, yet it doesn't seem to be part of the story at all.

Sounds like something I would say.  And that is the point I'm trying to make.  People on here that want to champion Frost as someone that is only going to recruit guys with high character need to stop thinking that way.  Because he's going to do what is necessary to win.

But compromising his morals would be more broad than just the character of players.

I will say one thing though--I don't have any tolerance for players that do things towards girls or women.

There's a story every month of a girl getting suspended for something stupid like wardrobe

I bet Frost's first question before offering Washington was "Any sexual scandals that could get you into trouble?  I need  real pieces of work to reinstall the 90's glory.  3way vid? You in it?  No. But you sent it to her? Perfect, you'll be a great RB for us!"

It's going to be interesting to see how people react to Washington staying on the team. Several people drawing lines in the sand that are going to be difficult to walk back.

It's just their opinion, why would they have to walk it back?

I don't think what knapplc is saying is obtuse in any way. We have several fans who want him off the team. What if he isn't kicked off the team? What do those fans do? That's the question he's posing.

I can already say what they're going to do with almost complete certainty - the vast majority of them are going to forget MW's legal troubles and scream their throats dry the first time he scores a touchdown in 2019. It boils down to elitist posturing.

This is what I was trying to say earlier - she was expelled for being raped? Her parents didn't press charges? C'mon now....

Exactly - just so odd. You don’t do anything legally (or go to the media) against the school for expelling your daughter but turn over a text  to the police (and go to the media) re: a text  received from an jilted ex. Something is off.

:snacks: This has got to be the most posts I've ever seen on one subject in less than 24 hours on HB.   Very sad event for all involved.  I hope we can get to the truth quickly & accurately for all parties involved.  Time for some new RBs to sharpen their cleats and step up.

Yeah it doesn't add up at all. Attorneys would have a field day for expelling a girl that was sexual assaulted. So would the media etc.

So basically people are stupid for not realizing that one arbitrarily-drawn line must not be crossed and they must accept that the program will have to dabble past that line in order to find significant success but only up to the point where we come up against some other arbitrarily-drawn line and that line should be considered an absolute that can't be crossed for any reason.

Got it.
