Mizzou / Nebraska Without The Vitriol

We had American war criminals? They must not teach that kinda of stuff in the public school system.

In anycase, when did this thread turn into an American History lesson?
OP handle... its some war guy that apparently did some things that werent very popular at the time. Civil War is still a touchy subject to the South, they mean when they say "the South will rise again"... albeit a bit delusional in current times.

SO..........how about that MU/NE game. Going to be a good one. :)
It looks to be a good one. I think we'll know a little more after this weekend. If Mizz struggles against a beat down NV team, than they could have their hands full in a couple weeks. If they blow 'em out like I think they will, they'll still have their hands full but it should be a good game.

I'll be at the game against NV Friday, so it will be interesting to see them before the Nebraska game in a couple weeks.

I feel ya dude... I feel the same way about Michigan and some other teams that arent worth mentioning. Comes a time when you learn from the past and move on... Between you and me though (and anyone reading this) I hope Mizzou stomps KU so it puts Nebraska back in contention for the North.
What do you mean "back in conention"... the conference hasn't even started. If/when we beat Mizzou, we will be front runners for the north. I'm not worried about Kansas this year, at least until they show up against a quality squad. They've ONLY played cupcakes.

from what i have been hearing there is a good chance there is going to be 1/3 or better Tiger fans there. NV fans are calling for a boycott of the game to pressure the school to fire Ault and MU fans are estimating as many as 10K from the bay area alone will be there.

As for the game, they should roll. If they do or not is another question

LOL... as it stands right now, KU and mizzou are ahead... I know we will get back to the top, but in the meantime I am going to take it anyway we can get it.

Quantrill....nice of you to join in on the fray!

Screw the Jayhawks.

I ran across some Jayhawk grads at Hy-Vee on Saturday night.

They were commenting about my Mizzou shirt.

I almost ran them down with my cart, but they were senior citizens and their grandchild was with them.

To further clarify for the Husker fans.

If Mizzou's team sucked (which it doesn't) and it lost all games in a season except one. (which it won't)

The season would be considered a success, as long as that win was against Kansas.

As a lifelong Tiger fan, I hate and always have hated Kansas. Unconditionally, unequivocally, and irrationally. When they are the issue, facts and reason leave my mind.

I don't feel that way about any other team, including Nebraska. I'm in my mid-30's and, as such, grew up admiring the success of Nebraska's programs. For a host of reasons, the recent years have been kind to Mizzou while Nebraska has been working its way through a series of transitions, from Osborne to Solich, Solich to Callahan, and Callahan to Pelini. I was there in Columbia when the Tigers beat Nebraska for the first time in nearly 30 years. I was there in Lincoln last year when the Tigers scored 52 points during Nebraska's homecoming. That those 2 events transpired, that we find ourselves in a position where the Mizzou-Nebraska game has become such an important part of every season, and that the series has become generally competitive, are things I always hoped for but which I never necessarily expected to happen. Obviously, these recent events have caused a host of reactions. I'm sure that if you've visited Tigerboard and tried to engage in legitimate discourse, you've been disappointed in the responses. I've seen some of the same stuff while lurking on this board.

I assure you I'm not looking to get involved in any of that stuff. Instead, I seek your all's perspectives on your team and what you've seen out of them so far. I've attended all the Tiger games, so I haven't been able to see a snap of Nebraska's season. What I'm wondering, specifically, is whether you think that Nebraska will beat Mizzou on October 8th? If so, why do you feel that way? Are the Huskers better than last year and, if so, in what areas? Or are you thinking that Mizzou has simply fallen off with the loss of Daniel, Maclin, Coffman, et al.? From my perspective, this Tiger team is definitely different and we certainly don't have anyone of Maclin's caliber. We do still have a lot of good pieces though, including several young players who played parts in what was a 5-touchdown win in Lincoln last year.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Here's why we will beat Mizzou this year.

Yes you did come to Lincoln and make us look like a team of illegitimate Hawkins' kids...but...you were playing with the best MU team of the modern era while we were 5 games out of the worst Nebraska team in the modern era. If you think our team has not improved since October 4, 2008 you're in for a rude awakening.

And after that game I'd say you started to decline:

You lost to Oklahoma State 28-23

Lost to Texas 56-31

Squeaked by Baylor 31-28

Lost to Kansas 40-37

Got dismembered by OU 62-21

And looked sluggish against a bad Northwestern W 30-23

Let's face it, compared to the big dogs, both teams were average at best last year. But an average year for MU is really really good, and an average year for NU is just that. Average.

This year I think both teams are probably pretty equal on offense but our D is going to surprise you. Thanks for the post:)
That's a fair characterization of the remainder of Mizzou's season following the Nebraska game and I agree with you regarding last year's teams relative to the so-called big dogs. The reason I registered to post here is to discuss a team that, by all accounts, has vastly improved since that night in Lincoln. Personally, I never could reconcile Mizzou's ability to do what they did at Nebraska last year with the struggles that ensued. Sometimes, I wondered if it was a situation where the offense was standing around waiting for Maclin to make a play and the defense just wasn't very good. Other times, I wondered if Daniel was hurt or if teams were simply wising up to the spread offense. Another possibility is that Nebraska was simply off its game that night.

As a Tiger fan, what I'm hoping for is for the quality of Mizzou's "average" years to improve. If we fall back now, then the success of recent years will seem to have been the result of having some unique, one-time talents (a la the Cory Jones / Larry Smith years). If we can keep things at this level or better, then we will be deemed to have climbed a rung on the latter. That's why October 8th is so important. By midnight on that evening, I'll feel more strongly one way or the other.

What standings are you looking at? Are you sure it not in alphabetical order because no one in the Big 12 has played a conterence game yet.

:yeah Just because they are listed alphabetically ahead of NU on the ESPN standings doesn't mean that they are "ahead" of us. Nothing is decided until we start the conference schedule. They may not have a loss and we do, but that doesn't mean shitt when it comes to the conference. I still don't know what he's talking about "take it any way we can get it", nothing has taken ANY shape yet. :wtf

I don't know about being off of its game as much as trying to find it still. In the MU game, the NU offense clicked finally in the 2nd Half. Watson changed his approach and the offense became the unique entity it is now. The D was just to raw in the basics of Bo's D to execute the game plan he wanted. After that game both units got better and better, of course the O got better much faster as the learning curve was less. The TT right after the MU game was an awakening of sorts for the team. They used the new O scheme and gave TT everything but a loss and NU went on a roll from there.

I dont know what you look at, but there are wins and losses noted on the chart, mizzou and ku are both 3-0, Nebraska 2-1... so both are ahead as it currently stands. Check out Big Red Wrap up sometime, thats how they list the teams in the north.
