NBA 2024-25

NBA is so LOL

Since David Stern, the league became scripted and rigged... and a billion-dollar corrupt business for his entertainment, and then handed it over to his fellow buddy Adam Silver. The rich get richer, the media hypes it up, fans keep paying, and the beat goes on and on LOL

The rich definitely get richer, and the media sells hype because fans love it.

Otherwise, I don't see the fix or rig at all. If it's Dallas getting a rigged lotto, you'd have to look back through the whole Stern/Silver era to find other rigged lottos that in some way favored the League itself. Owners are making bank watching their investments soar, but so are the players. The best players exercise tons of leverage on ownership and management, and the guys at the end of the bench are making $2 million a year. You could call it a players league and you wouldn't be wrong.

If a corrupt NBA could rig things to their liking, they'd have the Lakers play the Celtics every year. They were helpless to stop LeBron and the Lakers from flaming out in five games, and they can't be thrilled by the number of small market teams still in the mix. I'm sure they'd be satisfied with the Knicks in the finals, but the possibility of Pacers vs OKC/Denver/Minnesota can't have the networks excited. The game itself remains unpredictable.

I watch a lot of NBA, and have seen it evolve for 50 years. I see exciting games and tons of great players going all out to win. I'm sorry you're not enjoying it.

I know it is fun to say it is rigged but unless all the owners are in on it, it just doesn't make sense.  There is really no such thing as a secret, eventually it would get out.

The NBA players are brilliant, literally the smartest players out of all the pro sports.  They literally work together to make things better for themselves.  They chat about which team(s) they want to go to behind the owners backs (smart), they all agree to just "sort of" play defense during the regular season, because offense = bigger contracts.  And they will hardly ever hard foul each other, because, injuries mean less money.

You won't see MLB pitchers serving up meatballs to help guys get more hits.  You won't see NHL dudes not lay down in front of a puck.

You SORT of see NFL guys no longer head hunt but that seems to be more because of the fines and flags.

Claims of the NBA being rigged fall as flat as any claims could when you look at the 25 years since the Knicks made the Finals, Lebron in LA's inability to do anything of note in the postseason after the COVID asterisk bubble accomplishment, the number of small market teams that get the top draft picks, the enormous bargaining power of the players' union and the motivated spending of hundreds of millions by 30+ teams looking for an actual edge.

I have no doubt that at times some players/coaches/owners MIGHT try to do "something" such as sitting guys, trading guys, faking injuries, whatever...

but for the actual league to rig things, it just makes no sense at all.

You might be surprised how many players get big contracts because of their defense. Guys like Draymond Green, Rudy Gobert and Jrue Holiday for sure, but also great scorers who are some of the best defenders in the NBA, like Kawai Leonard, Victor Wembayama, Giannis, and Bam Adebayo. If you're a hotshot scorer putting up 25 points, but playing lax defense on the other end, you will lose minutes fast. Luka Doncic is a superstar, but his reputation is taking a hit for his poor defense. Steph Curry got a lot more serious about his defense mid-career. Maybe Luka will, too.

As for hard fouls? I see them every game, including plenty of flagrant fouls that would qualify as assault if you did them on the street. Some of those hard fouls have cost players several games and entire seasons. These guys do have an internal code, and they do exact payback on guys who break it.

What I don't understand is baseball pitchers with 97 mph fastballs intentionally hitting batters as payback for a batflip, or gesture, or running out a home run too slow. Most of the time with the managers approval. Just seems stupid and dangerous.

I'm sorry bro, but it is not fun to say at all.  There is a better term for it.

Wrong.

Your thoughts and statement are wrong and flat-out incorrect.

Rigged means arranged, which is a more accurate term.  Would an arrangement make a difference in your thought process with regards to a billion dollar NBA league?

It sounds as if you haven't followed the league and its business transactions.  I recommend you study the arrangements that have occurred since....  well, just start off when Cleveland drafted hometown pick Lebron from Akron Ohio.

Since you don't know, Cleveland had a 22% chance to win the first pick in the NBA to choose Lebron.   Cleveland of course received the #1 pick.  Aka arranged aka rigged.

When Lebron chose to leave Cleveland for Miami, tearing their hearts out (Cleveland fans) guess who recieved the #1 lotto pick in the NBA - in back-to-back years - after Lebron bailed on them?  Cleveland.  Again, aka arranged aka rigged.

When Lebron left Miami and returned to Cleveland in 2011, guess who received the NBA's #1 lotto pick and getting Kyrie Irving?  Cleveland.  Again, aka arrangement aka rigged.

Jump to recently... How did San Antonio move up in the lotto (suddenly) the last 2 seasons and this year again?  Does the NBA miss the Spurs being great again?  They got Wemby, Castle, back-to-back rookie of the year players... and now this year's #2 pick (with 6% odds to get that).... ?  again, arrangment, aka rigged

When Luka was secretly dealt to LA near midnight on a friday night - which had to be approved by the league first (this still never gets mentioned by the media) - Dallas fans have been pissed and felt angry.  It's the 4th biggest market in the league.  Was that deal arranged?  Rigged?

3 months of pain and hate, but suddenly Dallas received the #1 pick with 1.8% odds as the 4th highest NBA market in the league.  Arranged, aka rigged.. to help smooth the league and Dallas for the Luka trade.  I mean, NBA players were shocked and scared about the Luka trade.  Something had to be done.  And it was - but nobody in Dallas was shocked with those odds.

So, to say that anyone who could possibly think NBA is arranged "aka rigged" and falls flat..... it makes you sound more ignorant than others like me and about 11 million alone in Dallas who do consider the NBA as arranged, rigged, crooked.  We don't all say it out loud, but some do.  And that's okay.

I've got to give it to you, you never cease to impress and entertain with your wildly emotional feelings masquerading as facts.

Real giga brain analysis here. Makes me wonder who rigged my office when I randomly grabbed the one working pen out of the container with four non-working ones.

You think the NBA wanted LeBron to go to Cleveland because he grew up in Akron?  I know better than to ask this to conspiracy theorists…but why would they do that?  What big picture deep state agenda benefits from Lebron playing in Cleveland?  Even he doesn’t like to be in Ohio very long it seems

Lebron to Cleveland makes some amount of sense as a good storyline. The funnier piece of evidence is how the non-Lebron dogwater Cleveland team also getting the #1 draft pick was evidence of something, as if the NBA has ever given a s#!t about Cleveland outside of Lebron?

Thanks! Yes I definitely enjoy the entertainment value I often bring  chuckleshuffle :wasted

Sorry about those non-working pens!  Glad you beat the odds and got the best one!

I don't know man, I had no problems with it.

If anything, I am still just super mad at the Mavericks.  The team I have love and followed my whole life.  Getting the #1 pick makes me think it is supposed to soften the bitter feelings, and it might.  I do like Flagg.

I think the league cares about the market and fan base to an extent.

It also happened in NOLA twice.  When Chris Paul went to LA they got the #1 pick.  When Anthony Davis went to the Lakers, NOLA got the #1 pick.

I don't really believe the NBA is fully rigged. But it is an Entertainment establishment, and officials have admitted to throwing games.  And the league used to assign d!(k Bevetta for Game 6 over several years to ensure their would be a televised Game 7.  Those are admitted facts.  And the league pays the officials as they work for the NBA.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist.  Although @admo's notes about NOLA are interesting.

But no one will ever convince me that the 1985 draft lottery wasn't fixed to get Ewing to New York.  All the envelopes are cleanly dropped into the hopper except one that was inexplicably banged against the side.  That envelope had a crease it in that just happened to be drawn for the #1 pick.  It was New York.
