NCAA in "Deep Discussion" to Implement Revenue Sharing with Athletes

It sucks that the only way actually out of this mess seems to be to go the route of collective bargaining and the actual, literal death of the student athlete model and just make it into a professional league. Seems clear by now that the Supreme Court is going to essentially laugh in the NCAA's face any time they try to restrict anything.

I don't think the players right now realize how great they have it, because the CBA route is going to eventually come, and they will be so weak in their bargaining power.

Pretty wild that college athletics has existed for more than a century in a more-or-less illegal fashion and nobody really cared that much to notice or care.

I personally disagree that football players will end up in a weaker bargaining position. The revenue they should be getting is significantly higher than $20 million.

I'll also say that the student athlete model is a lot of fun, but it's been an illegal operation exploiting athletes for decades. A CBA is where all this is heading, they need to get this over with and accept that's what's happening.

IMO, this is the only way to create some semblance of order in the chaos.
Completey agree.

I can solve the problem.

Go back to a true armature model like DIII.  No huge TV deals, no huge coaches' contracts, no Taj Mahal facilities.  Players get an education & play for fun.   Cap ticket prices at $5.

Yes, I'm aware that you can't put the genie back in the bottle...

We, as a society, value the entertainment industry far too much.  Think about all the money that could go to something useful like teachers, roads, police & firefighters if it didn't go to pay athletes, actors, musicians $10's millions/year.
