Huskers planning to pay athletes $22.5M starting in 2025.  No word yet on how that will be split among sports but football expected to get $12-15M.

This is interesting, but I do believe it will not affect certain teams from paying players under the table in addition.  Or tampering.  Unless you somehow get caught foolishly, now no one can track it down.

For example, we still would be wondering - why are top recruits and top transfers still choosing (for example) A&M, Texas, Ole Miss, Auburn, USC, Florida, Miami, etc, etc ?  I'm sure Boosters will still pay athletes in addition under the table to secure the top recruits. There is no way to track cash hand shakes.  That's why Boosters will love this.  Players can get NIL and you can justify the new sports car and bling.  And he's got bank.  But ultimately what got him there will be the hidden cash in addition that you can't trace. Since he has NIL checks you won't question it.  So, back to the good ol' days for some schools that handle business that way.  If you just look at the right you can't tell what the left hand is doing.   ;)

I don't think the problem was ever the actual team/university paying players under the table.  It was always boosters-probably in concert with the coaches (at least the 'bad' ones).

Now tampering I can agree with, you can be much more up front about what your boosters will pay a player to get them to come play for you.

Perhaps the solution will work itself out when the top 30-70 football programs break away from the rest. The rest may then end up having the top programs for Olympic sports since they would theoretically be best positioned to fund them.

That gives a good window to get to 105.  Will still be kind of odd cutting guys that late.

Does not appear there will be a "practice squad" that could get called up if guys get hurt, which Rhule has talked about.

@Mavric  can you speculate why the SEC would not use the full allocation of scholarships?  The only thing I can think is title nine

The only thing I can think of is that the bottom of the conference doesn't think they have the money to do it so they're delaying until everyone gets up to speed.

But it's still pretty surprising to me.
