New DC

Feels fine to me. I really wanted Odom but trust Rhule to give us at least a solid defense.

I guess my biggest worry is it could become similar to 2017. Make or break season for the head coach and we have a few people who have never worked together on defense - where if things go badly, do they start bickering like Diaco and Donte did. Excited to see how we attack the portal, Bradden should have some pull.

Sooo…..were you expecting him to hire a complete staff from somewhere else?

"Hey <insert stud transfer portal or HS defensive player>, want to play in the NFL?  We can get you there."

Butler - 10 years NFL coaching experience

Snow - 8 years NFL coaching experience

Bradden - 8 years NFL coaching experience
Pretty sure it’s easier for an experienced college coach to say this. They might be able to say “we know how professionals play.”

I'm not going to fly off the handle here.  Though if I had to guess, Rhule was turned down by choice or 2.

Rhule and Butler obviously meshed with what they want to do on defense.  (And that is probably a reason why White is no longer here.)  Snow is Rhule's guy, having him as DC at Temple, Baylor, and Carolina.  Plus Snow was around all year as an analyst, so I assume Butler and him agree on things.

I’m just sharing what would be my main concern with it, that’s all.

Florida State took our DC. But they also took our DL coach. It can be a nice advantage to have a couple people who worked together in the same room. This might have been something we could have gotten with Symons or Leonhard. And I’m not even saying this will be bad, I said it’s fine to me. I’m just comparing it to 2017 because it was a make or break year for the coach and a new DC and a new position coach didn’t mesh.

Also Bradden has a much better resume that Knighton did when he was hired.  Guessing Dave Merritt (Dawson's dad, Chiefs DB coach) was the one who got the ball rolling on this one.

Plus he should have recruiting connections in the South and especially Florida where he was a high school head coach.

It is interesting that this news came out just hours after Belichick just took the UNC head coaching job.  Not saying it was Belichick, but he casts a long shadow in the coaching ranks, and maybe the folks we were talking to bailed because of that ripple.

Bellichick hasn't been hired.
