And, just as more background - this is not the first time we've had another board try and grow by using us. Two that come to mind are Husker Hooligans (Rick/Rawhide even joined to kind of monitor them) and in another fashion, Husker Power Hour (HPH). I don't think any of you were around for that one.

Husker Hooligans was almost exactly like HLR. We had someone join, he wouldn't follow the rules, we banned him, he started his own board, and tried posting links references all over Huskerboard (using a sock and some other folks who were members at both and didn't like the way we moderated Huskerboard). Today, there is no Husker Hooligans site.

So, this is not unprecedented. In summary, we've worked hard to grow Huskerboard, and we did it without invading other boards. No way we allow another board to ride our coattails to grow and take our members.

Polo is just now starting to realize that owning and operating a board is far more difficult than being a member. His site was down most of today, and he's going to need a new host. He's going to find that costs some bucks. Right now, his membership consists entirely of his buddies. If he's ever able to attract enough "outsiders", he's going to discover that keeping it, if not civil, at least functional is going to be an issue and he's going to have to impose some actual rules and enforce them. And that will lead to some of those "outsiders" to be banned - and lo and behold, he'll be the very thing he hates. He's going to need SOMETHING to attract and keep members and generate posts, and that will necessitate he get people to do tech work, graphics, etc.

It's the nature of the beast.

You are not kidding. I looked at the site just now, and they have 3 threads with posts in the last 4 days, one thread is their game day thread and most posts come from the Ke-meo sah-bee himself. LUL

The lack of content on HLR (and the abundance here) has to be the number one reason those from that group that have not been banned (and even some who have) are still hanging around HB, with subversion as a close second.

While I can't say I'm pleased with what's happening over there I can say I'm not surprised. Maybe this will give him some insight into why we do the things we do and how hard it can be at times.

 
I can't decide if this is a direct or indirect (general) personal attack. Given who it is, my guy tell me the former but I thought I'd see what people thought.

i guess bo was bigger than the program.

but here's the thing most of you morons don't get when you all were shouting that bo's a good coach and the players need to get their heads our of their asses; a first year coach can get a pass because of bad players with sh**ty attitudes, a 7th year head coach has to take all of the responsibility of how his team performs and does and does not execute.

it is amazing how wrong you a$$hole$ always are. just say the opposite of what you are thinking and you will be right 90% of the time.

sd'sker mentioned in a status that he'd like to be banned because he can't restrain himself from responding to certain posters. (Like the post above, responding to Redux.) He's been one of our best posters in the past. But, like a lot of us, he is feeling very frustrated right now. After talking with him via PM (a very civil, friendly conversation, I might add), I am going to oblige him with a month long vacation. It's not so much a penalty for anything he's done as it is a restraint for what he's worried that he will do.

I hope you guys don't hold this against him.

I am not sure this is all one-sided. Looking at Redux's comments, it appears he is at least fanning the flames with sd'sker.

My simple personal opinion is the bowl system has been watered down and 5-7 teams shouldn't go bowling. If that means Nebraska misses a bowl, that sucks for our players and I won't like it but it is what it is.

whatever, if the bowl system says they deserve a bowl, then they deserve a bowl. and if you don't like them missing a bowl, you should be rooting for them to get to a bowl.

Does a 5-7 Nebraska deserve a bowl more than say an 8-4 East Carolina? Probably not. But because Nebraska is a better draw, they will get the invite.

You really think the bowl execs care about the players?

just because the players are bad, their attitudes are bad, none of them are going to the nfl does not mean they should not get to enjoy the bowl experience if invited. it is what is best for the program and the team, so i will root for it.

Agreed. There has been a lot of fanning of the flames lately. On both sides. But I thought a vacation for sd'sker was the lesser of two evils as compared to him responding in a manner that would warrant a permaban.

 
Great work, NUance. After the carl incident I was just going to let him go and earn that ban if he really wanted, but avoiding a permaban is a good outcome.

sd'sker is simply trying to advertise HLR in another way. Stir it up here and claim "it's a board wide problem." They are happy to turn threads into garbage here, something they would never do at HLR.

It's why Polo and StPaul (who is joining in this act with sd'sker) crow about how an HB moderator is calling our coach a piece of sh#t and, when I ask them - multiple times - to please report where it's been done, silence.

That said, they still should get treatment no different. But to me, it seems clear that this is their angle. I don't care for drama and it's disappointing to see, but these guys have been all about this angle for months now. What it really boils down to is they can't deal being somewhere where viewpoints not their own are tolerated.

Funny how negativity against the coaches rubs him the wrong way, when he and his posse had zero problems with it before...

It's pretty hypocritical, and this "Oh, I just NEED to be banned" act is a completely childish act.

 
If sd' had been suspended before he got to get that "HB is a terrible place now" spiel off his chest, I think we would've been pretty upset. Not inclined to give him or the next guy that luxury again.
