El Diaco made this status update:

El DiacoIf personal attacks are verboten on HB, why has it recently been deemed acceptable for people to call others snowflakes? Just curious because it seems like an attack and insulting to me.

El DiacoMy issue is that its use is seemingly allowed and ignored. I don't particularly care who or what side of the political spectrum the user is affiliated with. To my knowledge it has only been directed at me maybe once but that isn't my issue. Although I would rather be called other unmentionable names and accused of being butt hurt than to be called a delicate little special snowflake.

He also likened it to referring to someone as butthurt. What is everyone's opinion on this term's use on HB, as it has become part of the national lexicon and has found its way onto HB over the past year?

As it pertains to the term butthurt, Frank made this comment in another thread that I tend to agree with. However, unless both terms are being used in jest, I am not sure what other context it would not be used as a personal attack.
So long as they aren't using it for personal attacks, we're fine with it. It's not the term - it's the context.

The use of the term snowflake was debated in a thread by members about a month ago. Here is the main argument against its use.

That snowflakes sh#t has got to stop. It applies to the people using it just as much as it applies to the people they're calling it.

And it's another way of telling people who truly have gone through persecution that they're either full of sh#t or they don't matter.

Again, I don't think it is the term that is offensive, in itself, but it is used as a personal attack. Right now, though, it is a popular culture meme with clear connotations, so I don't see how you can not call someone a snowflake without intending to attack them.

Has anyone be warned by post, PM, or a formal warning to not use the term snowflake? What about triggered?

I do not recall warning anyone myself, but another issue that has been raised is that mods are not consistent in delivering warnings regarding this term.

I haven't seen it reprimanded yet. It triggers some people (ah hah) but I IMO, most of the people using it on here are doing it wrong.

It's definitely a mindset of too many people though. I coach 2 different levels of youth baseball, and I promise you, way too many parents think their kids are special snowflakes that deserve all the attention. Us not putting little Aiden at pitcher or 1st base isn't because we're playing favorites. It's because he's not good. Then again, this is the same generation of parents that lobby the league for participation trophies/medals for fall developmental baseball, where we don't even keep score.

tl;dr It's only in the politics threads, but that stuff is bleeding to the status updates way too often. I have no idea where you draw the line. It's an (incorrectly) overused term/label to troll people, and get away with it, like bigot. I am of the opinion that we move politics to the woodshed.
