StPaulHusker

He didn't send it to me.

And he has participated before, as demonstrated here.

He's a self-centered narcissist, imo.  He's always whining about people "eye trolling" his posts.  He blew up yesterday when he posted something from Dirk and a few of us were making fun of Dirk and he took it as a personal insult even though no one said anything about him.  He also whined before when I moved some posts from a recruit profile that he derailed into a Tangent thread with his name on it.

If he doesn't want to be included in them, stop being so argumentative.

I wouldn't move anything.  Just my opinion.  Of course, I'm the one who moved it there in the first place so.....

So, someone kept eye rolling Redux's posted and he messaged me asking if it's the same person, but not asking who it is. I didn't know what he was talking about, but I went and looked at his recent activity, and @StPaulHusker eye rolled every single post of Redux's from the last hour in the Change in offense 2019 thread.

I don't want to police people's reactions to posts, but I think this could be considered some level of trolling because it has nothing to do with what he's posting but who he is. It's fairly bold of StPaul to refuse to take part in any kind of argument with him in the Shed, but simultaneously think it's OK to just troll his posts with eye rolls.

Am I looking at this too harshly? I feel obligated to say something to StPaul about it.

Update: Redux experienced an additional grouping of eye rolls (not all from StPaul, but StPaul did add a few more from my initial post) and so Redux has elected to take a vacation from the board as a result.

Any thoughts on all this and my post from Friday here @Mavric @Saunders @Thanks_Tom RR?

I think this sort of bridges a conversation to the eye roll in general. People are starting to abuse it much like they did the -1, which was ultimately removed from board functionality. I don't think it's that much of a widespread issue but it's become a routinely talked about problem among some select regular board members.

What are the rules of the 'eye roll' that distinguishes its use as a reaction to a particular post or a series of related posts to trolling? I think this is a critical point to establish.

I would say it would easily be seen as trolling if a member eye rolls multiple posts of a single member across different threads in a short amount of time. Or if they eye roll every post made by a single member, regardless of time between posts. This would constitute cyberstalking/cyberbullying. Is this what StPaul is doing to Redux?

However, if StPaul (or another member) 'eye rolls' a number of times in a single thread in response to a discussion with another member, I chalk that up to a disagreement with the other member's content.

Could you give some context about the pattern of 'eye rolls' used by StPaul toward posts by Redux?

To me, it looks like StPaul is eye rolling him to just eye roll based on a lot of Redux's recent activity. In the 'changes to the offense' thread, StPaul eye rolled every single posts of his from Friday and, in many cases, was the only person to do so. MountainMan also seemed to jump on the bandwagon and eye roll several of the same posts that StPaul did. One after the other.

StPaul also poked his nose into the Woodshed around the same time Friday and eye rolled some posts by Redux, including in their 'VS.' thread. Interesting that StPaul wants to take no part in that VS. thread but has no problem anonymously eye rolling Redux.

Last but not least, Redux has made no bones about it that he has a problem with being eye rolled in general. Several members do. I think that's another layer of why StPaul is doing it.

My conclusion is that StPaul (and MountainMan) are following Redux and eye rolling him to just because. There's also reason to believe MountainMan is part of the old Polo crew. I'm debating a warning to StPaul but I don't know to what extent I should go, especially given his history.

Thanks for the context.  :thumbs  Based on your description, I would agree that StPaul has crossed the line into trolling with his use of the 'eye roll' reaction. Not only is he following Redux around, but he is clearly using the anonymity aspect of the reactions to troll (if he explicitly states he is unwilling to engage in the Vs thread).

Given his posting history, honestly, my opinion is a suspension will have no effect on his future posting and his warning history is recent and long enough to drop the permaban. I do not like banning long-standing board members, but I do not see he gives us any other recourse.

As for MountainMan, we have speculated many times this member is part of the old Polo crew. Wish we could determine this definitely. Regardless, this poster’s behavior has been disruptive but with more subtle tactics. Someone to monitor for sure.

Thanks for the feedback! We're of the same mind on this. I was leaning towards some kind of suspension/ban given who StPaul is, his history and tenure here, but I'd like to get a few other thoughts before I issue anything, especially since this is one of those potential bans that's sure to raise eye brows whether they liked him or didn't.

Proposal: permanently banning @StPaulHusker for trolling Redux with the eye roll emoji, his third board violation in one year and his seventh overall.

@Mavric @Huskerzoo @Saunders @jsneb83 and any other mod/admin, yay or nay?

@BIGREDIOWAN

You won't get any push back from me as far banning him. But another option could be to message him that we see what he is doing and tell him to stop or else he is done. But maybe I'm being too soft on him

Sorry, I've been traveling and hadn't had time to really digest this.

It's pretty childish that STP is always complaining about people "eyetrolling" him and then he goes and does this.  That's pretty troll-y and that's against board rules.

I'm fine with that route.  I agree with @jsneb83 that it seems a bit odd but I think that's just because it's kind of new territory with the reactions.  And STP has more than his share of warnings and more than one specifically for Trolling so he's made his bed.

MountainMan is Polo, btw.  He just lurked +1ing STP for a long time.  When he finally started posting a bit he was just stirring the pot so I put him on Mod Preview then he whined and really hasn't posted since.

Appreciate you all!  :thumbs

Will issue the ban here shortly. I think this has been a long time coming what with his general behavior, self-deprecating attitude, propensity to push the envelope and overall hypocrisy about the way he is treated vs. the way others are treated. I'm disappointed to have seen it come to this but he's been so toxic for so long.

FWIW - I also just realized he had his profile location set to 'Redux's head' and the interests set to 'Livin' rent free.' Not that we really needed any more ammunition...

I deleted it out of his profile.

Thank you @Enhance for identifying the trolling StPaul was doing. While I am disappointed in the fact that StPaul is now banned, I fully support the decision and agree with the reasoning.

For the record, StPaul had his profile location set to 'ScottyIce's head' for the last several months. Switching to 'Redux's head' must have been a recent change, and as you mentioned, more proof of his intentions.

Good work @Enhance, that's one headache taken care of. I agree with @Thanks_Tom RR that it is disappointing to see a longtime member get banned, but that doesn't give him special treatment compared to anyone else. We've been more that fair to him. Frankly, he has no one to blame but himself.
