Extreme weather accounted for 9.4% of all deaths globally between 2000 and 2019, according to researchers who on Wednesday published the first study linking changes in temperatures to annual increases in mortality.

I am not sure how to comment on this. Woke was 'cool' and frustrating all at the same time. Sometimes nonsensical.

Certainly overused. Now its a political liability.  


 
Why is meritocracy a bad thing?




Generally speaking because

a) it's a myth

b) we don't all come from anything close to an equal playing field at the start. It's like saying, "This guy crossed the finish line of the race first, so based on merit he's the winner" without acknowledging that he started 200m ahead or 30 seconds early.

We don’t start at the same place but it’s the only race in the world where someone can surpass another even when they have a 90 meter head start in a 100 meter race.
