Dems only shot at anything is to pass the Infrastructure bill as written. Its a bipartisan bill the progressives are holding hostage. The social spending bill is toast. The only way it passes is for vulnerable and moderate Dems to fall on their sword and retire in 2022. It may happen anyway so it's a reasonable play.

Generally speaking because

a) it's a myth

b) we don't all come from anything close to an equal playing field at the start. It's like saying, "This guy crossed the finish line of the race first, so based on merit he's the winner" without acknowledging that he started 200m ahead or 30 seconds early.
