The Husker Games - April 26th (Spring Game Replacement)

😳 After seeing this I'm predicting right now the university will more than likely go back to a regular spring game football format next year.

This was what the crowds looked like in the 90s. I remember just walking into the stadium to watch Tommie Frazier and his teams play. I think toward the end of Frazier's time admission was $2, or a can of food.

IIRC, it wasn't until Callahan came around that the spring game became a big thing, as he really hyped it up and put a concerted effort towards getting huge crowds and treating it like a game to use as a big recruiting draw when nobody else was making any sort of big deal about their spring games.Ā

Looks like I was wrong about 1990s attendance. It seemed like pretty small crowds, but they were all over 20,000.

Yep. I remember those days well.

I think if you would ask Nebraska fans what they would want to see in a spring game, I think most of them would say just put the ball in the turf and go play some football. Doesn't matter if its 1's vs 2's or 3rd team vs 4th team in the second half - Just. Play. Football. It doesn't need to be a circus.

Omaha World Herald's Sam McKewon said reporters estimated a crowd today inside Memorial Stadium between 8,000 – 9,000 fans.

Apparently Midland put on quite a show. Saw a clip where they sacked Raiola.

I saw a score of 60-0 earlier. They appear to be quite good.
