The Husker Prayer finally gettin it’s due?

I’ve seen it at least a couple dozen times over the last 5-6 days. I’m not on twitter or FB or any other social media besides instagram.
But every sports website I’ve visited and several other spots (like yahoo, fox, and espn), I’ve seen it from the late 90s until v CU this year.

Looks like what we have all done for 25 yrs is finally making it to hype video rooms.
some have captions so we can all read it, some are just the prayer itself.  Seems like our traditions, lockeroom, and a lil hype are catching on.

I like it, but obviously it doesn’t mean s#!t. But glad to see it making the rounds of what N football is all about.

hopefully more traditions catch  on in recruits eyes and they can see we matter, if we keep winning…

Maybe it’s the algorithm of what you click on.  I haven’t seen links on the sites you mentioned. It was included in full on the most recent episode of Chasin3.

It doesn’t end up on video very often, but was on the latest Chasing 3 as krc mentioned. I think the first time it was on video, some people were upset about it being released to the public. That was probably like 20 years ago.

It was first shown on this Orange Bowl doc produced by HuskerVision. I don't recall there being much controversy around it but I was also only 12, I could have totally missed it.

I noticed when the 1994 team did the Prayer prior to last Saturday's game, they said, "A chance to equal all of our stripes."

My understanding was that line is, "A chance to equal our stride." But I'm sure that's mistaken, and the 1994 team knows their own prayer.

Our traditional prayer is based on the Prayer of the Sportsman, which includes the line, "A chance that is equal with all in the strife, the courage to strive and to dare." But that's clearly not at all what they're saying.

Found a couple of old threads.  You're even in there if you want to hear from your past self.

I know I ran across what was on the wall in North Stadium at one point.  I would have thought I posted it in one of those threads but apparently not.

This was Twitter official in 2015:

So being the Huge Husker Fan i am.  My 2 boys played varsity football their Soph-Sr years 2018-2021.  I had 4 Banners made with the Prayer on them and posted 2 in the weight room, 1 in locker room and one on the wall as they walk out the locker room to load the bus for games.  It was a big Hit and I think they are still in there.

Yeah, I remember those discussions. It's interesting how our understanding of the whole thing evolves.

Echoing what @Moiraine said, I've heard from some of the 90s players that the prayer was never meant to be made public, and some of those old teams aren't happy that this private thing is out there.

Those lines are certainly better than the original Prayer of the Sportsman our prayer is based off.

They weren't really talking to me, and I wasn't about to quiz them on it. I was just standing at the tailgate listening.

My assumption would be that to them it's similar to the rites of a fraternity, or any other club or organization. Those are internal things, and I can understand why organizations or teams like that would want to keep those things to themselves.

Strife, Stride, Stripes.

Two of these can make contextual sense. I’ve never had anyone explain exactly how stripes fits or works. And so it’s odd to me that the guys who invented it so often say it is/was stripes. Just an observation.

Maybe they weren’t exactly sure what it was Jason Peter was screaming at the time

The most annoying part to me is when they say "Dear Lord, the battles we go through life" <- this is nonsensical.

I think what they are saying now (at least in the first week) was "Dear Lord, the battles we go through in life." <- better.

What it REALLY should say is "Dear Lord, in the battles we go through in life," but that's a bit wordy.
